Battle of the Bismark Sea

Representing the Air Attack Tactical Combat IL2 community, we bring you the Battle of Bismarck Sea, a historical IL2 event based on the events that took place in the Bismarck Sea near Papua New Guinea between the Allied forces of Australia and United States vs the Imperial Japanese Navy.

 

 

 

The Battle of the Bismarck Sea (2–4 March 1943) took place in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) during World War II when aircraft of the U.S. Fifth Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) attacked a Japanese convoy carrying troops to Lae, New Guinea. Most of the Japanese task force was destroyed, and Japanese troop losses were heavy.

 

 

IL2 Settings.

 

The settings for this event will be a hybrid mix to appeal to as many people as possible. For example, there will be no Icons and engine management will be simplified. However, I personally will use realistic settings. This can be achieved with 3 default keys bindings:

 

Shift -+R : Manual Radiator

Shift + M: Manual Mixture

Shift  + N: RPM Limiter off

 

When you press the default options the engine management essentially becomes manual/realistic. We have decided to make it simplified so this event to appeal to as many players as possible.

 

Padlock is also enabled.

 

Mission

 

The basic premise of this match is to prevent the Axis forces from landing at LAE (see above map). Currently we are using the Kuban map as an alternative to the Bismarck Sea and renaming assets to represent the actual cities. We have Japanese skins for these which you will need to download these to participate in the event. (Listed below)

AXIS: Spit Vb (Zero skin) & Mc202 (Ki-61 Skin)

 

 

Victory Conditions

 

·         The mission will run for a set period of an hour. The time will be a factor for the victory conditions.

·         There will be limited number of planes available in 1 hour roughly estimated to be about 60 planes for the allied and about 60 planes for the Japanese.

 

Allies:
The mission is simple.

·         Find and destroy the Japanese fleet before they reach the landing at LAE.

 

AXIS:

·         Protect the troop transports at all costs. If the time runs out, the ships should get to port, then the Axis win!

·         At least 1 troop transport must arrive at Port of LAE or destroy all of the allied aircraft.

Conclusion

 

We are doing this event to hopefully bring such a great event to IL2. I implore you, from the IL2 community to come and play! The last event was great and this promises to be awesome too.

Hello everyone. This mission has been postpone for a few weeks as we have had some external issues we have had to deal with. I will repost this again when we have the time when this is happening  probably later this month.
