oFlyingDutchman Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 One thing that always stood out for me when watching those old guncams from ww2 was how after a short burst or a few well placed shots, what i assume was because of hydraulic damage, one or both of the landing gears would drop down and remain in the lowered position. What I'm asking for, is it is possible that we would get some kind of damage as those. Cheers 4
Rjel Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 It’s been asked for many times before. It’s on the possible to do list somewhere down the road if I recall correctly. 1
69th_chuter Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 Virtually all aircraft had landing gear uplocks so that is what would have to be damaged to lower the gear. The P-51 has two uplocks per gear leg, one in front of and one behind the gear leg at the outboard end of the clamshell (inner) doors. The Mustang's uplocks can't engage the door with the selector in the down position so the only thing holding the doors up with the gear down is hydraulic pressure. 1 1
