1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Love the smoke, big black smoke is what is missing after an explosion, or crash etc. Except stationary smoke over Stalingrad, we have now a small puff and after 5 sec there is no track what happened. I know it is fps killer, there is real challenge for coders to figure how to make this particles less performance hog. But this is how it looks in real life (watch real movies from crashes, fires and ground strafing). And i wait for exhaust smoke, for example the 109 make a lot of In my opinion smoke add a lot for immersion to virtual war. What you guys think? 1
Leaf Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) It does add a lot of immersion, I agree. I know nothing about coding or game design, but to extend the length of time for which smoke is visible seems fairly straightforward (though probably not easy). And I'm sure the developers can make it less resource intensive. However, judging by the tight budget and the more pressing issues, it's not something I would have on the top of my priority/hopeful list. If the game sells well, then by all means, I'll let the game melt my computer with more smoke and particle effects. Edited July 1, 2014 by LeafyPredicament 1
T6-ADStukadriver Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Good stuff...the smoke rising from Stalingrad. The fires below and the fire which erupts from an enemy aircraft when you are lucky enough to hit the right spot are all excellent effects that I enjoy from these developers. I am glad I got onto RoF when it came out and that these guys have taken on this BoS project. Both games have given me a lot of fun. Something that I saw and read about the Stalingrad battle was in regards to the smoke rising above the city. There are pictures of the smoke spreading out in two directions so that it appears as a black angel's wings. I read a German pilot's account where he referenced the image and used it for his navigating.
