Aerial artillery spotters and tank crew multiplayer? Speculation...?

Hello,

I haven't gotten to try TC in multiplayer. However, it occurred to me that we'll likely someday get artillery spotting for Flying Circus - and I started to wonder how giving the U-2VS (or the Stinson L-5 or Fi-156) an ability to direct artillery would impact the tankers.

Do you think it would be interesting gameplay to have an Fi-156 or U-2VS providing detailed fire-correction to artillery units firing on your tanks? How would it impact gameplay to have such aircraft shadowing you?

I remember seeing some artillery-use of the SU-152 online.. one guy with a GAZ in the woods was giving shot corrections to the Su miles and miles away firing at a player airfield, lol. Absolutely loved seeing that, albeit that may be a bit unbalanced once more people figure out how to do that effectively.

All we would need is smaller grid squares in the key pads.  probably 9 sub squares per 3.3km keypad.  360m sections.  You can then direct arty from there.  For example "Enemy Armor 0812.3.9 ranging shot" then splash then "adjust 100 right drop 200, Fire For Effect."  If your arty is pre sighted to a CP for example, it's fairly simple to adjust fire to the map grids given based on the distance from the CP.  But getting it sighted in would take considerable time and teamwork in advance.  And of course your arty would have to be well practiced.  If you stayed in the spawn, you'd get unlimited ammo right?

I also wonder about controlling AI artillery - as the war progressed aerial artillery observers were often able to request fire from even artillery normally assigned to other units and even sometimes develop improvised fire plans to support ground troops. So everything from mortars up to long range artillery (even sometimes ship guns) could be on the table.

i would think itl be very cool to do, but prefer a better spotting plane so at least could fight back the onslaught of planes that were going to come after you :)

So the Fw-189? They were also used for artillery spotting. Very good low speed performance, and two MG81Z equipped turrets with overlapping fields of fire for defence (that amounts to 7000 rounds per minute or 115 rounds per second). I'd vote for that.

I'd actually love AA artillery director gameplay. Where you command hundreds of AA guns and had a central director with range finding equipment calling the angles, heights , shell type and spreads.
