Hi all ... I am looking for maps or precise information on armies positions or front lines in the vilieky luki sector during the summer of 42. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for replying me so fast Namhee2, I know that map but it's too large to be precise. What I'm looking for is more a close-up map of armies position occupying the field around Velikie Luki. Ideally the same area of the map of il-2

I guess these ones are more into the fine details. From Velikiye Luki 1942–43 - Osprey Publishing:

Interresting! Even if the movements are those of the winter offensive, it gives an idea of the starting positions and the regiments in place. A good start so that I can target my searches. thx.

I would have liked to have imagined that the developers by creating this map and placing it in June 42 by default, had the historical context to help us build missions! Sometimes it is difficult for us to find information without obtaining a lot of written material.

It's a pity they did not "sell" this map.

There would have been some oportunities to have a career on it, but no ... :(

With the info I had gathered so far, here is the front line that I assumed to be more or less correct in june 42. with the two images that 'Sevenless' has to publish, I will be able to refine, but it is not won, I will still have to search.

Found this:
USA-EF-Defeat-2.jpg
It's also not very precise, but we can see that the front line is east of Velikie luki and it stretches quite straight from north to south.

Now the question is: Was there any air support on each side and what were the squadrons present? That's my next searches !?

Merci beaucoup Sevenless ...

Hello, my grandfather fought on the German side, and according to existing records, he died on February 2, 1942, in Velikiye Luki. I have been searching for any records of battle activity for that time. I do not have any records of which regiment he was in, but I see that infantry 277 arrived at Velikiye Luki on February 2, 1942.

Any info is appreciated.

So, your Grandfather died in Feb.1942 during the 1941-42 first Soviet winter offensive?  Not 1943?

The Osprey book mentioned above (Velikieye Luki 1942-43: The Doomed Fortress) is the best source of info on the battle for your time period.

This is the forum of a game that has precious little content on its Velikie Luki map and as a flight simulator, barely features any infantry. I doubt you're going to find what you're looking for here.

Have you tried sites such as https://www.feldgrau.com/ and https://www.feldgrau.net/forum/? I think those websites are your best chance of finding info about your grandfather, or can at least point you towards any archives that might have relevant information.

(Also, you've necro'd a 3-year old thread with a post that's not really related to the topic except for the title. That's generally frowned upon. If you try other forums as well (which I presume you do, seeing as you apparently joined specifically for this purpose), it's usually preferred if you just create a new thread in these cases.)

On a related topic, does anyone have any good info on the fall of Velikie Luki to the Germans in 1941?  Black Cross Red Star Vol 1 makes a brief mentions of Luftwaffe medium bombers attacking rail yards in the area in 1941 before the capture of the city, but I’d love some more detail to build a MP scenario around.

David M. Glantz's book:  Barbarossa Derailed vols.1-2 has the most detailed information about the 1941 battle that I've found.  I used that info in my Defend Velikie Luki 1941 campaign.

This link also has maps for '41:
