IckyATLAS Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 I have put here two pictures one of the cockpit of the P47D-22 and the Other P47D-28. Is it normal to have a gaping hole in the P47D-22 cockpit where you can see the cables behind the cockpit instrument wall. On the P47-D28 there is a plate with oxygen related data. P47D28 And here P47D22
=621=Samikatz Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Look up some cockpits of aircraft in museums, they all have similar holes in them, depending on the block number While you're at it, see if you can find a good photo of the Corsair's cockpit floor. It doesn't have one! You get to see a bunch of the aircraft's fuselage structure between your feet
IckyATLAS Posted September 13, 2021 Author Posted September 13, 2021 Fine no problem with that. Repairing the damaged cables if a bullet goes through should be easier ? (whatever the pilot's health situation)
1CGS LukeFF Posted September 13, 2021 1CGS Posted September 13, 2021 Many of these instrument panels were utilized for more than one production block so yes, if something wasn't called for, the area would typically either be left open or covered over with a plate.

Skycat1969 Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 P-47D-28-RA 'Dottie Mae', recovered almost fully intact in 2005 in the configuration she ditched in an Austrian lake in May 1945, appears to have the placards in place under the gunsight.
