SIA_Koss Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Hello everyone! Once I was flying online in Finnish server, and I came across a map with rainy weather. Not so often this comes across, and many pilots prefer to wait it through indoors. I decied that it was quite interesting - the experience of flying in bad weather condition. But after all, I thought that something was wrong. There was no such a feeling when you find yourself in rainy missions in other games. Something is missing... And i've found out it's all about the sound! Weather effects sounds as they are now are almost absent. Some kind of muffled quiet feeling. And now, after several years of playing, I asked myself this question, and found out that they are exist in game. But only by turning the volume 100% up in the game, and 100% up in Windows. And only then you can hear them. But you won't be able to fly like that, because you can become deaf by starting the engine. The idea is to rework the sounds of atmospheric effects and raise them to the optimal level, diversify them, and make them work with a certain logic. And the goal is to make flying in the rain different to flying in good weather. This is important for making game more atmospheric and immersive. I think it can transform ground missions - transport, evacuation, reconnaissance will become more atmospheric. Even common fighter or ground attack sorties. Tank missions. Etc... The video was made in order to see how it would look like and how perception of flight may change. Please, use headphones for better expirience. What do you think about it? Would you like to see it in the game? 1 1
PatrickAWlson Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 It sounds atmospheric but I'm not sure that it is realistic. My feeling is that it comes through too much. I question that you would hear rain hitting the cockpit with the engine running. There are people on these forums who fly smaller planes. Curious as to what they think. 1

PatrickAWlson Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 @Koss video seems reasonable then. The light rain wasn't audible when the engine was on. Heavy rain you could hear. It was a nice touch.
Soilworker Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 I think it'd probably be different with a massive V12 as your engine though, right?
