‘Kommando Babenhausen’

13^th February 1945

A large battle was developing around the City of Koln (Cologne). 12 Thunderbolts of the 22^nd Fighter Squadron USAF had just successfully attacked trains near the City and then the Railway marshalling yard causing a huge fire which was slowly enveloping the City.

This was the scene at Babenhausen as Oblt. Dortenmann received orders to ‘engage low flying aircraft in the Limburg-Giebent-Merhausen area’.

This is a historic mission taken from the book “Green Hearts first in combat with the Dora 9” by Axel Urbanke – refer to Chapter 8 ‘Operations by the Kommando Babenhausen in the Rhein-Main Area’.
