‘Kommando Babenhausen’

13th February 1945

A large battle was developing around the City of Koln (Cologne). 12 Thunderbolts of the 22nd Fighter Squadron USAF had just successfully attacked trains near the City and then the Railway marshalling yard causing a huge fire which was slowly enveloping the City.

This was the scene at Babenhausen as Oblt. Dortenmann received orders to ‘engage low flying aircraft in the Limburg-Giebent-Merhausen area’.

This is a historic mission taken from the book “Green Hearts first in combat with the Dora 9” by Axel Urbanke – refer to Chapter 8 ‘Operations by the Kommando Babenhausen in the Rhein-Main Area’.
