KodiakJac Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) Hi guys! After a 6 year hiatus, I've returned to IL-2 Great Battles! At least I'm trying to return. I purchased Battle of Bodenplatte and Tank Crew yesterday, but I can't get the IL-2 Great Battles launcher to work. I've read everything and tried everything in the FAQ section, and sent a message to the Customer Support department, but they just redirected me to the FAQs. Below is my reply to their note. Maybe some of you have also had this problem... "I tried both Option 1 and Option 2 today, and neither one worked. So I disabled Windows Defender Firewall and uninstalled McAfee Anti Virus and tried a Windows clean boot, but that did not work. The IL-2 Great Battles launcher just runs on and on forever, and never starts the game. I have attached another screen print to show you what it is doing. My system specs: i9-10900K nVidia 2070 Super 32GB RAM Windows 10 Version 20H2 OS Build 19042.1165 I have installed IL-2 Great Battles on a 2TB PCIe SSD that has 1.3TB free space that is working perfectly. The game path is “E:\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles” (as short as I can make it). I am a retired System Integration Manager with Ford Credit, and I have very strong PC skills. But there is nothing I can do to get your IL-2 Great Battles launcher to work. I can successfully run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and IL-2 1946 BAT on this computer, but not IL-2 Great Battles. Could you please escalate this request for help, as I have tried everything I know how to do." *** From: 1CGS Support Team "In your case there are 2 options. 1.-delete the contents of the folder "[Game folder] updates -start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame After that you should start the process of updating the game. Wait for the process to update the game and run the game. 2.-remove all game files -Download the installer from the tab "Download" in your profile on our website -install the game -start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame After that you should start the process of updating the game. Wait for the process to update the game and run the game. Note: pay attention to recommendations, which are located on our website at https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5321-faq-about-launcher-and-updating/" Me again... Any help would be appreciate! ? KodiakJac Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 Forgot to ask from anyone who is successfully launching the game. In the screen print above, the launcher shows 142.86 GB/32.52 GB, which I'm assuming means 142.86 GB of 32.52 to load. So has it run way past the expected load amount of 32.52 GB? How quickly does the launcher typically take to launch the game? Thanks!
Ahairon Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 you are not the one, i try to fix 2 days ago 1
Rjel Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Have you tried to start the game from the .exe instead of the launcher? Is the game fully downloaded to your computer? The game loads quite fast to the main screen. Less than a minute generally. Missions load times vary but are still quite fast. Usually less than a minute or two. 1
KodiakJac Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) Hi Rjel, Are you talking about launcher.exe in bin\game, or another exe. If another exe, could you please tell me the full name of the exe. "Is the game fully downloaded to your computer?" I'm not sure. The installer seems to be working correctly. It creates the game directory, checks on Microsoft.NET Framework 4, which it says is up to date, and installs DirectX Runtime components, and then finishes and launches the game launcher. And that is where it seems to fail. The launcher runs forever, never launching the game. I let it run overnight, and it got up to 640GB by the next morning, and still was not running the game. Thanks! Right now I did another uninstall, re-install, and the launcher is running again adding files to the \updates\21-08-18\copies game folder. I'm watching it add files through File Explorer. I just did another uninstall, re-install, and the installer seems to be working. It ran through the Microsoft.NET Framework 4 and DirectX update, and finished. Right now the launcher is adding files to the "updates\21-08-18/copies" folder. I'm watching it add files through the File Explorer, so it's doing something, and not just sitting there spinning its wheels. Will wait and see what happens this time. Rjel Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 I’m at work right now so I’m only guessing it’s Il2.exe. I think it is in the GAME folder. As to your download, the game is large but no where’s near 640 gig. I think the full download is in the 30-40 gig range. Hope someone else jumps in here with some help for you. 1
KodiakJac Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 Thanks, Rjel. And I just found the update.log and it is a mile long and full of error codes and error messages. Looks like there is one for every file it is trying to download to my desktop. I'll send it to the Help Desk and see if they can tell what's going wrong. Cheers!
jollyjack Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 It's still not clear to me if Stalingrad is a must have to get the other modules working? 1

KodiakJac Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 Here are the last few lines of the update.log... Failed: all threads are dead, but there is file marked as was not processed die due: /data/Graphics1.gtp Failed to get update files from http source. Closing cURL client. Downloaded 44516549 kBytes. Killing update threads... Killing caching thread... leaving il2_KillUpdateThreads() Copying update.log to last_update.log Not sure what all this means, but hopefully the Help Desk can figure it out. At this point I can't install IL-2 Great Battles.
Rjel Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 As a last resort, I’d suggest downloading a new copy of the launcher and perhaps trying to install the game to a different drive if you have one available. I’d also suggest renaming the folder you’ve tried to install to so you have the information available when support does contact you. Is it possible the folder isn’t checked as Read/Write? I’ve installed IL-2 GB several times through the years and I’ve never dealt with the issues you’ve described. Wish I had a better answer for you. 1
KodiakJac Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 When I logged a support ticket with the help desk about this problem, this is the reply I got on Sept 6... Dear player, When the PC works correctly and there is access to the Internet, the update occurs automatically during the regular launch of the game.In your case there are 2 options. Note: pay attention to recommendations, which are located on our website at https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5321-faq-about-launcher-and-updating/ Then I sent the Help Desk a copy of the update.log file yesterday (Sept 7) that contained this in the last few lines... jollyjack Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 (edited) They must have an auto-reply robot, scout's honor. Can it be some windows permissions issue on the folder you use for the game installation? Otherwise you could try to fix the windows installer ... https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-fix-a-corrupted-windows-installer Edited September 8, 2021 by jollyjack
Jason_Williams Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Is this a new install or updating a very old install? Have you tried an install from scratch? Jason 1
KodiakJac Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 (edited) Hi Jason, For me, this is a new install on a new computer. I had been away from Great Battles for 6 years, then purchased Battle of Bodeplatte and Tank Crew during your Labor Day sale. I'm also a BOS owner, but it has never been installed on my new computer which I bought about 10 months ago. Thanks for looking into this! Edited September 8, 2021 by KodiakJac
KodiakJac Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 Working for me now, too. Thanks, Jason!
