tirta Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Hi Guys, My system specs is: i7 870 oc to 3,7Ghz memory 16Gb GTX 2060 6GB Recently, I get Quest 2, so I am thinking to get FC vol 1. Is my system good enough to run FC in VR? Please advise. I
Soilworker Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 I have an i7-8700K not OC'd, 16gb RAM and a 1080Ti running a Pimax 5K+, I think you'll be fine. (However I'd consider returning the Quest 2 if you still can and get something better, there are better options for simming out there for not too much more money.)
tirta Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 while I agree that pimax 5K+ is superior hmd compared to quest2, the price here is very expensive, it is more than 4 times quest2 price. so for now, it is not a good buy. and I think my current pc is not fast enough for pimax. my cpu: i7-870 (1st generation i7) is not i7-8700K, and I think 1080Ti is much faster compared to 2060.
J2_Seya Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 It depends on what else you use VR for. If you play other games the I dex would be a good just if it's just il2 you can get the G2. I would wait until the next gen VR comes out next year.

IL-2 VR is very much dependet of the CPU performance in single-thread. Your i7-870 has a very low single-thread performance (1402) https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html In VR the scene has to be calculated twice (for each eye) and this require an extra CPU duty. It is tru that the FC scenes are less dense in terms of objects than the other Great battles scenarios, but you might suffer very low fps. In any case the price of FC is much lower than changing any hardware, so if I were you I would just try FC with low settings and you tell us how well it goes. Edited September 9, 2021 by chiliwili69
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Upgrade the cpu to a ryzen 5000 with fast ram and then you can try vr.
tirta Posted September 9, 2021 Author Posted September 9, 2021 Thanks for all the replies and feedback. I really appreciate it very much. OK finally I decided to buy FC. and I have just tried it in quick mission: Albatros D.Va vs S.E.5. I manage to hit that S.E.5 on novice setting. ? What an experience! I must say even with my lowly pc and quest2, the VR experience is amazing. It is very immersive, much much better compared to trackir. The fps is smooth and stable enough, but it is quite hard to check six, it gives me sore neck. Now, I have to learn to fly these WW1 planes properly. Too bad there is no tutorial. It seems this sim is not geared for noob player. Is there a noob guide? What to do after trying the quick mission? 1
Voyager Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I'd start here: I'm mostly playing quick missions myself. And 8v8 of random Entant and Central Powers planes can be a real blast. You can also check out Pat Wilson's Campaign generator here: Pat Wilson Campaign Generator - IL-2 Sturmovik Forumhttps://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/99-pat-wilson-campaign-generator/ 1
Drum Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Also add this mod to make your Neck Safer. 1
tirta Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 @voyager thanks for the youtube links, it looks very informative, I have to watch them all. do you also have links for teaching noob how to fight? I try quick mission duel: Albatros D.Va vs S.E.5, on novice setting , I can manage to beat the SE5, but on other setting, it always flies higher and higher and never goes down again, I can hit it for a few seconds by pitching my aircraft for a few seconds, but then it goes into a stall, so the enemy gets higher and higher. so how to beat it? @Drum this mod will save my neck. thanks. 1
hsthhsth Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 @tirta, please have a look at Down the page you'll see two planes for FC are included. Just make sure to recreate the mission.msnbin files. Easy way is to delete them after installing the missions and let the program recreate them for you when you start the mission. 1
tirta Posted September 11, 2021 Author Posted September 11, 2021 wow, thanks hsthhsth. this kind of tutorial missions are exactly what I need. I am going to try installing this right away.

I have tried to delete all msnbin files, but then the campaign won't start. Then I try to undelete them, now the campaign can start. Do I miss something here?
hsthhsth Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 @tirta, odd, it works for me. To be sure that everything works to the latest version of the game you could do the following: 1. delete all msnbin files, 2. start STeditor.exe (if you don't have a desktop icon go to "1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\editor" directory) 3. go to Tools in menu and select "Resave all missions in Folder" and select the Flightschool directory. 4. have a coffee and wait, 5. all your msnbin files will be recreated. Enjoy.
tirta Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 thanks hsthhsth. I will try it. btw, what's wrong with the current msnbin ?
hsthhsth Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 All files in Flight School were created on older version of IL-2. Good practice is to recreate missions after update if you notice anything wrong/strange when flying a mission.
tirta Posted September 21, 2021 Author Posted September 21, 2021 thanks hsthhsth for the explanation. I have tried the flight school missions. I find it is harder to fight with SE5A compared to DVII. Yes, I need to learn to boom and zoom with SE5A, and I have looked at some youtube videos. I guess B&Z is not very intuitive to learn.
