=WBR=Filbee Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 I'm new to IL2 but I've played other WB sims for years. The game is very impressive but I am totally alarmed and overwhelmed by the number of controls required using single and double key strokes. Although I am setting up the basic flying and engine controls, the views, both external and internal are baffling. I haven't (yet) invested in an TrackIR device but realise I may have to. However I know a number of players use a combination of key strokes and joystick to achieve an all-round SA and I would dearly love to have some simple advice as to a basic set-up or pointed to a manual which will do the same.
cardboard_killer Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 Before I started using trackIR I used the "hat" on my joystick for views. I did not use external views except as a sight-seeing exercise. To set up the hat (or keyboard if you lack a hat), see

Track IR and its alternatives are great. I personally made my own for very cheap (~$30 CAD). If you have some basic electronics and soldering skills you can do it easily. Delan clip is a great inexpensive way if you don't have those skills or don't want to make your own too. https://delanengineering.com/ 1
=WBR=Filbee Posted September 6, 2021 Author Posted September 6, 2021 Tx Justin. Whilst I know a little about billy-basic electronics, for a few quid more, a purpose, tested machine seems a no-brainer. Thanks for the advice. However, I'd still love to know how to set up the views in IL2 and also, after looking in a certain direction using the mouse, the views using buttons/hat-switch don't work anymore. Weird or what.
Dragon1-1 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Actually, the "purpose, tested machine" is three IR LEDs and a battery. Nothing particularly innovative about it. I actually made my own clip and it worked perfectly fine last time I used it (I switched to VR since then). It was really easy, too, took one of those big paperclips for the support wire, glued two LEDs to the end, and mounted it all, plus the third LED, to a piece of laminate. Three resistors, some wires and a battery holder, and I had a working clip.
SharpeXB Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Unless money is an issue, TrackIR is certainly worth having. 1
