AEthelraedUnraed Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 In all of the gunner positions (in planes, but also in tanks and the AA vehicles), the camera slowly moves back to some kind of default position, no matter where I hold my head. So, let's say I move my head 10cm to the left and hold it there. In game, my head initially is 10cm to the left as well, but after a couple of seconds, it has drifted to its starting position while my real-life head is still to the left. If I move my real-life head back, the in-game head now moves 10cm to the right of the starting position. A couple of seconds later, it will again have returned to the default position. There's also no way to adjust this default position as pressing F10 or numpad 5 to reset the view doesn't work. This means that not only it induces motion sickness, but I'm also physically unable to use gunsights since as soon as I've aligned the gunsight with my eye, the camera has started drifting and I need to move my head even further, upon which the game moves back again and the only way to keep my head static is to keep moving. Anyone else who has this problem? 2
AEthelraedUnraed Posted September 2, 2021 Author Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) No-one? At least tell me if you've got this problem too, so that I know whether I'm dealing with a bug or some wrong config setting on my part. Edited September 2, 2021 by AEthelraedUnraed
BBAS_Tiki_Joe Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 I think I get this when my headset tracking is messing up if I'm understanding you correctly. It starts drifting especially when I have "No outside cockpit view" turned on as a setting. The drift causes it to act all kinds of messed up, but I usually can fix it by resetting my bounds and making sure that my head set is tracking. Try playing a SP quickmission with the "no outside view" turned off in settings. If that seems to fix the problem try resetting all your bounds for your headset and check tracking. The other thing, do you use VR necksaver, the third party program? I use it and It sometimes does really wonky things to my view and I have to reset it. (Exiting out, then restarting it after the game is already launched.) Other than that, VR in the gunners position is really cool, but I really wish they would take a closer look at how it is setup for us VR users. The headtracking is already messed up, especially when leaned into the gun sight. If they could get the views fixed, I would play gunner all of the time!
firdimigdi Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 You are not alone, gunner positions are really not workable in VR currently unfortunately. The only way to operate them is using the mouse and toggling the "get close to sight" mode and it's by far not intuitive or comfortable.

(Exiting out, then restarting it after the game is already launched.) I don't have "No outside cockpit view" turned on, and I don't use any 3rd party programs (or mods, currently). I play IL2 through SteamVR and the Oculus app (the latter is needed to use my Quest 2 with a PC). I don't use any additional programs, and I never changed any config files (the default settings seem to work pretty fine for me). Resetting the view in-game (using F10 and/or numpad 5) doesn't have any effect. As I understand it, you don't have the problem? So, in the gunner's position, you can move your head and the headset tracking keeps working? If so, might sharing your setup (hardware + any additional software or config you use)? That would help to pinpoint the problem. 6 hours ago, 335th_grFirdimigdi said: You are not alone, gunner positions are really not workable in VR currently unfortunately. Yes, the "get close to sight" mode stops the drifting, but then either the camera is completely fixed to the gunsight and no movement is possible at all, or you get the black "gunsight zoom" screen.
=IRFC=Gascan Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Yeah, gun positions are terrible in VR. If you haven't taken control of the gun yet, then it doesn't recenter. You can look around and move around like you normally can in VR. If you take control of the gunsight, it starts the recentering that you were complaining about. IIRC, if you rotate the tank turret, your head stays facing forward rather than matching the rotation of the turret. If you nestle to the gunsight, it locks your head in place against the gunsight. You are only allowed to rotate your head, you cannot move it otherwise. This applies to tanks, planes, any gun position, and its ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I get headaches and nausea very rapidly from this. I know of a number of flat-screen players who can fly a Halberstadt or Bristol from the back seat and operate the gunner at the same time, but I can't even attempt to because of the VR issues with the gunsight. If I take control, it recenters my head. If I nestle, it locks my head.
