Cliffs of Dover Blitz on Linux

Hi there,

I'm able to get this game running well on linux. At the moment it requires a little hackery, though it does work well with the latest version of proton under steam. I suspect that in the near future it will work out of the box. In the meantime, I documented some instructions here along with a script to do this easily. The summary:

- Use latest proton, set launch command to "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%"

- Create some symlinks in the game's root directory and in the wine prefix for the game.

Otherwise I've found performance to be the same as running on windows. I have opentrack working as well.

Edited to add: I'm also using a Saitek Pro Flight Switch Panel to good effect as well, using another little hack.

Thanks for sharing this.

It's great to see the titles we all love so much running on other platforms.

May end up a solution for folks that wish to continue using their hardware while switching to Linux or BSD in the future?

Did you do anything different to what I suggested?

Regarding opentrack, I reinstalled wine on my machine so that the wineserver version matched that of proton (6.3). Then recompiled opentrack. After that, it came good and works like a charm. Let me know if I can help on that score.

Is anyone still playing the game through Proton with success.  I had a good try at it myself.  I was able to get the game up and running and was able to get into missions but the attempts to get my Hotas and key bindings done just proved to be my downfall.  I was able to get some stuff working but when I try and go into key assignments the game locks up and the only thing I can do to get control back is manually kill the process.  I see on the ProtonDB site there are still a lot of complaints so I was just wondering if anybody is having more success then me running the game on Linux?

Through much toil and tribulation I was finally able to get COD Blitz running on a Linux setup.  I settled running Ubuntu 24.0.4.2 LTS, I was able to get it running on 25 as well but stepped back to help address Opentrack support.  Getting the main game running and playable was pretty easy.  I just basically followed the protonDB comments and bam it worked.  I had been running an older version of Ubuntu before and it was the MATE version.  Not sure if the newer release or the GNOME desktop fixed my disappearing menu problem I was having.

Now getting Opentrack working was not so straight forward.  The eventual solution that worked for me was using protontricks to install the windows version of Opentrack into my COD's install proton perfix.  So now I launch the game from Steam and then execute a bash script from the terminal to get Opentrack up and running and it all works.

COD Blitz was the last Windows game left I have in my library I could not get running in Linux so the journey is complete now.

I'll probably keep my dual boot setup.  Every once in a while I will need to do something which is just so much easier in Windows.  I have had a dual boot setup for so long so I'm pretty comfortable with all the issues of keeping the two operating systems playing nice with each other.
