Tinku74 Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 (edited) I am considering jumping into the VR world, and have set my sight on a Quest 2. In your opinion, can I expect to run it with acceptable frame rates with the following rig: i7 7700K 32 GB RAM GeForce GTX 1080Ti Any advice is appreciated. Tinku Edited August 21, 2021 by Tinku74
=TF=Kaiza Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 (edited) Hi mate, I run a Quest 2 with a slower rig than yours with no problems, although at settings that are not as pretty as those with fast rigs. I use the 'competitive' settings from this thread. In terms of pure graphic quality these settings will probably be a downgrade from what you are running at the moment, but the immersion will outweigh that cost. I was previously flying with a Oculus CV1 and found it a significant disadvantage in terms of spotting and ID during multiplayer, however the Q2 is a massive improvement and I find it relatively competitive with these settings. I have a 8600K, 16MB RAM and a 1070. Edited August 22, 2021 by Kaiza
Tinku74 Posted August 22, 2021 Author Posted August 22, 2021 Thanks a lot. Yes, I figure visuals will suffer, but I expect it will be as you say, immersion will more than make up for it. I have read so many comments from VR first timers in this forum about how mine blowing the first VR experience is. I hope I am not setting expectations too high. Any must-have accessories you can recommend? I have the Q2, a 5m cable and a carrying / storing case in the shopping cart. Again, thank you for your advice.
=TF=Kaiza Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Nothing is really a must have, but the strap on the Q2 is designed more for mobility than comfort. I ended up getting an aftermarket head strap which is so much more comfortable. Cheers

Now I am just waiting for Oculus to resume sales. On Amazon and eBay the old 64GB sets are being sold at ridiculously marked up prices.
Riderocket Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Make sure you use open composite instead of SteamVR on Oculus devices. You'll get like twice the performance increase.
Tinku74 Posted August 27, 2021 Author Posted August 27, 2021 Thanks Riderocket. I'll have to read up on what exactly that means. As you can tell I am absolutely VR -illiterate My Quest 2 is arriving on Monday, am quite excited!
vilox111 Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 Hi guys, I am considering buying an Oculus Quest 2 in order to use it for IL2 BOS and other games. As I am not quite sure, if my system is even remotely capable of making VR work - and if so, in a way, that makes flying IL2 actually fun (i.e. Am I going to be able to see the details I need to see in order to fly the aircraft?) - I would appreciate your opinion resp. experience on my system specs and what I can expect of it. I know the GTX 1060 6gb is base line for VR, but especially the CPU (Quadcore), the mainboard and the RAM (DDR3s) get me concerned... Your advice is highly appreciated! Thank you guys!
vilox111 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Sry guys, already here again with an update. Just found out, that you need a Facebook account to run the Quest 2. So I am going to opt for an HP Reverb G2 or the Valve Index. Which one would you think is a better fit for my weak system? Thank you!

vilox111 Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Thank you drewm3i! Just bought a secondhand PSVR and it works. Of course the resolution is not as you would expect of any Oculus or above I guess. Apart from that the field of view is quite narrow to be honest. But you know what: It's fun! I know it won't be enough to actually stand any chance in any serious dogfight due to the limited spotting capabilites, but the flying experience is freakingly awesome! Apart from that I am only learning to fly the aircraft for which the PSVR is fine. Take care, guys! o7
