A Suggestion For An Addition To The Bug / Issue Reporting Thread

Recommended Posts

Salute,

As a way of providing feedback when a bug / Issue gets reported, how about adding additional sub threads that could be headed something like "Acknowledged / Working On It", "As Designed", "Under Evaluation"  etc. Only the devs would have post permissions to these threads so we could not add posts there ourselves.

When we then make a post in the general Bug / Issues thread, once dev's have looked at it they could move the post to the appropriate sub thread then, with out having to get involved in making a post, there would be an indication of the status of the reported issue for the original poster / community.

These sub threads could be locked down for further posts to prevent "when is it being fixed" posts (I know what "we" the community are like) but at least it would be a kind of feedback to the issue status.

Keep up the great work you are doing.

@The Community - Please do not use this thread to post "I reported x ages ago and it still needs fixing" or "What about Y, its rubbish". This thread is not about that.

I think this is actually a neat idea, but only if the user then also receives a message that his post was moved (this is currently not the case).

I think it would just add more unnecessary work for the moderators/developers. I never understand people's fascination with status icons and the like. A bug gets reported, it gets noted by the devs (only the most cynical among us would believe that they're not reading the bug report forum), and it gets added to a list for a future update. Putting icons on things would just waste time and give the naysayers more ammunition... "It's been tagged WIP for months, where is it? When when when? Argh!"

At least we would know it has been looked at and noted. I have logged two issues just recently, and yes, I would hope that they have been noted by the dev team, I feel it would be nice to have that fact acknowledged by seeing it moved. I don't see it being more work for them. After they have read the post, if there is enough hard evidence of the issue provided (as there should be with all reports, video evidence, steps for replication etc, hear-say is not enough) and it does not need a lot of triage, they click to move it to the appropriate thread.

I would not suggest they back track over ALL logged bug reports. Draw a line in the sand and start using the process from a certain release for example.

I find that when I submit bug reports, that if I have done everything correctly, then I get a "thanks" from one of the devs (Usually DED Rapidus), which means the bug is acknowledged.  If they need further information, they ask for it.  After that I assume it's being worked on, and will at some point be resolved. Sometimes a bug is resolved, which I discover only through playing, and then sometimes with a new update a bug comes back, and we start the process again.

A bit more clarification would be nice (Like:  The issue is now resolved, thanks for your input!), but I can see it's not the highest priority for a small team working on such a complex product.
