Controller ID's messed up after new pc migration

I bought a new pc, downloaded the game and installed it.

i was hoping to preserve all my controller and video settings by copying startup.cfg and input folder over to the new install. I have 5 usb controllers. When I fired up the game, the game asked me to associate controllers again, but I have discovered that while all the controller settings seem to be preserved, controller ID's have not been preserved, and now old controller 1 is now new controller 3, and so on.

What have I missed or done wrong, and how to fix this?

In the IL-2 input folder, these three files control input:

  • devices.txt
  • current.actions
  • current.map

First, make a backup of all three in case what I'm about to suggest doesn't work :)

I think that if you open up the devices.txt you can simply change the device numbers that start each line to what the new device number is. For example, if your pedals were device 1 but are now device 3, simply find the line for you pedals and change the leading 1 to 3.

Here are my pedals with a leading number of 2.

2,%22676d0c70-12e6-11eb-0000545345440280%22,MFG%20Crosswind%20V2

Again, I think that will work, but have never tried it myself. If that doesn't work, another alternative is to open up the current.actions and current.map files and search&replace the devices to the correct number. E.g. replace all joy3 with joy99 (as a place holder), then replace all joy1 with joy3, then replace all joy99 with joy1. Etc. I'm about 99% sure that will work.
