What kind of fixed seat are you guys using for VR?

I'm gonna get a new pc and reverb 2 VR next week and i was thinking this would allow a more comfortable sitting position with the controllers by my side rather than at a desk. So it seems to me that there might be quite a bit more head and shoulder movement with VR as opposed to TIR, and perhaps a car racing type seat might restrict movement too much. It's nice to be able to lean out of the canopy for a look. I basically want to build a framework to attach a fixed seat and my controllers, and a few switches and buttons, and possibly a jet seat or jet pad type tactile seat cover later on.

So what kind a seat are you guys with VR finding suitable for the task?

I use an AK Racing gaming swivel chair on rollers, however I replaced the castors with locking castors so I can lock it in place when gaming.

Very happy with it. I have been using it now probably around 6 - 7 months or so.

I'm using a Maxnomic chair by Need for Seat and mounts from Monstertech.

r3volution cockpit it's good for flying and driving. I'm switching to the yaw2 motion simulator when it gets delivered. I'll turn this into just a driving setup then or sell it.

Lawn chair... Slightly modified

I find this posture to be closer to that of the germain fighters I prefer to fly in game with my legs more out in front of me rather than hanging below. Under the seat I've mounted the power and amplification equipment for my DIY seat and stick shakers.

Since taking this picture I've modified the two side wings so they fold in and I can tuck it closer to the wall when not in use.

I can roll out up to my flat screen when not in VR.

Just a normal office chair, modified. It has a mount for the throttle screwed under the left arm, and I put lockable wheels on it. I also put a bass transducer in the lumbar support area to work with simshaker.

Just in general, that is one of the slickest setups I've seen. Who needs a desk?

Well done :good:

Regular office chair (high-end though but got it second hand :) ). My thighs against the side units stop it swivelling and the bars on the floor lock it in place.

It's also been Virpilised. ?

I got this fixed seat about 10 years ago:  https://www.playseatstore.com/playseat-revolution.html

I modified it a bit (higher base rails, some more foam under seat) and used the metal base of the warthog attached to the seat. So the joystick is between the legs, where it should be.

You can see it here:

My plan is to reuse all this with the Yaw2 motion platform.

I use a leather Haider Bioswing 360 iQ for Home Office but that swung me around a bit too much when flying, so I opted for a round Vienna Coffee House chair (stolen from the living room) ;)

It's fully rigid, my squadmates watch my six while I watch theirs.:fly:

I use a commercial grade high wear side chair.

Basically something like this: Green Fabric Banquet Chair FD-C01-GOLDVEIN-GN-GG | Bizchair.com
https://www.bizchair.com/FD-C01.html?dwvar_FD-C01_configColor=Green Fabric%2FGold Vein Frame&cgid=stack-chairs-banquet-chairs#prefn1=material&prefv1=Metal&start=1

If you get ones with high rub endurance and a high max weight steel construction, they'll hold up to all the horsing around you'll do in VR, and it won't have arms to get inn the way of the rest of your rig.

My throttle set (CH Quadrent + Warthog throttle), for reference sits on the back less seat of a prior rubber wood construction side chair I used to use. And no, I did not need to remove the back from it to turn it into a conveniently height throttle stool...

I use an Obutto Revolution cockpit. It has been great for me, but I only play flight and seated sims so it might not be a fit for everyone. Also, buying the Kiwi Pulley V2 system that you see on the ceiling was the greatest thing I ever did for VR. Enjoy the G2, it is fantastic for flight sims!

That system is very good for seated play.

For roomscale gaming, I recommend VR WIRE II. I have trialed that against a usual pulley system as well. VR WIRE II is even worth it if you order from Europe (pretty expensive then) for this usecase (roomscale). There's no center-pull nor cable-twist like in the usual pulley systems (these are cable annihilators in roomscale)
