Hello friends

Looking to upgrade my eye candy, mainly in DCS But want to improve FPS also in IL2 GB.

To keep same/simple settings for all SIMs, running at 60 v-sync refresh with 60 fps limit in NV CP (IL2 Can run 75 fps (v-sync) stable with 2x msaa & 2x ssaa).

Current PC:

5800X, 64 GB DDR4 3600 CL 16, 850W PSU, 2 SSD's, 3.5 year old 1080 TI, 32" 1440p 75hz 1st gen Free Sync monitor.

Would have bought 3080 (almost same price as 6800 xt) but low amount (less than my old card ..un-acceptable?) of vram and some estimates of expected lower quality (and efficiency) of NV 3000 Cards compare to AMD 6000s.

Have no intension to run in VR but 4K Is valid option in the future.

Thanks for helping.

I know about 10GB VRAM in 3080 (not Ti). But, don't worry: I'm playing at 4K with a 3080FTW3 10GB and all is working perfectly. 60FPS. MSAA included (SSAA is not working a lot of time ago in game, check it; placebo effect).

AMD 6000 series are working worse than 5000 series in this game.

I recommend 3080. Moreover, you and me have got the same CPU and RAM (3600 CL16). My experience is valid for your rig.

with those rapidly changing GPU prices i begin to think one is better off hiring or even leasing one ... my 2080ti is now worth half of what i paid for it ...

Im running a MSI 6800XT Gaming X Trio. Gaming in IL-2 at 4k 60fps no problem at all. Its even undervolted to 1000mv. Runs all my games no problem using latest drivers with SAM enabled.

Thanks for tour feedback, can you post your System spec and in-game settings?

Note, the 1080 Ti can get around 90fps average in 4k

The issue really comes in when you use VR.

Yeah sure no problem, I came from using a 2080ti which ran 1440p maxed out without a problem undervolted to .950mv. I fancied trying out an all AMD system though. I had the 6800xt on pre-order from its release date so managed to buy it close to MRSP, took over six months to actually arrive though.

AMD 5600x

MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi

GSkill 4x8gb 3200Mhz C14

Sabrent 1tb NVME in slot 1

MSI Gaming X Trio 6800xt running 1000Mv 2350Mhz minimum, 2450Mhz Maximum, 2150Mhz Memory with Fast Timing enabled and SAM.

Thats using a 32" 4k monitor and Track IR 5. I use Vsync so its a synchronised with the track ir.

No problems whatsoever, not even when panning the track ir down low or over airfields etc.

It was between this 6800xt or cancelling my pre-order and spending more on a 3080ti. So far I'm really happy with it. Its also very efficient with power usage.

Thanks very much, that's very impressive.

I may  try to convince my daughter's spouse to part with his 6800 XT Nitro+ (under priced of course...(:) and get himself something else.

Thanks again

Thanks mate,

A friend of mine has a  Asus 3080. We both use DCS world. Both cards perform brilliantly as you would imaging. However I get less Track IR panning problems with micro stutter or tiny delays. My 2080ti had the same minor problems with Track IR too. The game itself a constant 60fps no problem. The 6800xt though is butter smooth.

Hello guyz

Well, this my take:

I Had my 1080 TI replaced with 6800 XT NITRO+ In my PC yesterday and today for total experimental time of about 9 hours, kept it on the same settings as on the Nvidia CP And game settings of IL2 GB, DCS, IL2 FB And CLOD.

In the SYN_Vander test it hovered around 80 FPS And in DCS It meant improvement on my current (most important) settings of running VISIB. Range and CLOUDS on max settings and 60 FPS Limit or running on current settings-both on "high" but on 75 FPS. This improvement is not enough or exciting for me to spent that money on this upgrade or pay twice as much for 3080 TI, our old based SIMS still make strong GPU look helpless due to CPU Bottlenecking and for non VR play, 1080 TI & 1440P Still look relevant.

One thing more, generally, the V-Sync via Free-Sync scaled much better than with nvidia but no matter what settings applied, had many times sort of clear ripple effect in the middle of my screen and this was the final nail in the coffin of my hopes for this GPU Upgrade.

On the fence again till my card or screen gets broken
