Can il2 be Played with just the keyboard and mouse?

Can i play il2 with just the keyboard and mouse or do i need a joystick ?

For many months I was living in a place where it was too complex to hook up my joystick so I had to play Blitz + Desert Wings-Tobruk with the keyboard. I primarily flew bombers and was the bombardier, did torpedo runs; and with fighter missions and campaigns I just put the autopilot on and only took over when absolutely necessary.

 

Overall, you technically can play IL-2 with just the keyboard and mouse, but it is strongly recommended to play with a joystick.

I use to play with a Xbox 360 controller nowadays, it's a sin/m, i know. But it's way better than use the keyboard + mouse. Just the right analog and the two under triggers are not compatible with Cliffs, but i use JoyToKey so i remapped it to ordinary keyboard inputs. That way i can bind all buttons/triggers/analogs ingame. For part of the controls i use the keyboard.
