Base stations 2.0 (vive) regularly loose tracking for a short time

Hi!

I have some trouble with my base station 2.0 setup (using vive pro 2). Some sessions it seems like they keep loosing the tracking for short times. It happens every other minute, the image fades out into light grey for just a second before coming back. I had the same problem with my previous vive pro hmd, so I dont think it is related to the hmd.

I have my flight sim desk in a corner.  One base station is positioned in the same corner, diagonally above me. The distance between the base station and the hmd is about 1 m. The other base station is in the diagonal corner of the room, so it does not track very well (at all?) except when Im checking my 6. If I move into the center of the room it seems like the problem disappears. Could it be that the tracking base station gets too close to the hmd? Does anyone recognise the problem?

I remember seeing the recommendation to keep the Base Station at least 6 feet (~2 meters) away from the HMD, give it a try see if it fixes things.

Interesting. That is in line with what I experience.

The VP2 tracks pretty well to within a meter, for me it's not an issue.

You can take pictures - or create a little map of your room. Then we might be able to tell you better what is the issue. It's important to include any glassy surfaces. There are also things like certain steering wheels for Sim Racing that reflect Lighthouse beams.

Perhaps something from household appliances interferes. For example, a cooler or refrigerator. The starting current of the compressor is very high and causes interference in the electrical network. And the device of the base station is electromechanical. The rotor may lose stabilization. Try to see what happens when tracking is lost.

Sorry for not answering for a few days, been busy working. This is really weired, I start to think Im getting crazy. My main setup is the two black base stations on the image. I have tried to add a third one (the blue one), no difference. I also tried to use only one (the red)  and room configuration standing/sitting. Made no difference. I have tested with curtain in front of the window and a blanket over the TV. Doesnt help.

When sitting at my desk I get the grey fadeouts every sessions now, more then once a minute. But when moving the chair just half a meter back, they disappear and the image gets stable. So I experimented a little and brought the table with me, half a meter, and still no fadeouts. Pushing table and chair back to the original position, the fadeouts are back. Conclusion; The only place in the room with the problem is exactly where my chair stands. And its nothing on my desk making the interference.

Im thinking about what WallterScott wrote above about household appliances interfering. Is this really a viable scenario? Has anyone actually experienced that?

Any suggestions?

Hello,

i had a setup with 2 basestation 2.0 for my Index .Never had problems with loosing my tracking ...

With the vive pro 2 i had from day one in the same configuration without moving the stations tracking problems.

I play only in the moment in my seat and the only thing what was helpfull  was to go with only 1 station .

pointed to my seat . The problem was that there where reflections of something ,i dont realy  know what caused the reflections . Maybe the glas from the pictures on the wall???Or the paint ...

I tried a lot of places till i found the right position.

Now i have a steady tracking with 1 basestation .

I had the same problems as you wrote a grey screen shortly and for me also a jumping picture ...mostly was the picture not stable and jumped arround a few seconds...

If there are no problems with tracking elsewhere in the room, then this is definitely not interference in the power grid. It's probably because of the reflections.

Very interesting, I'm not the only one then. Guess I have to keep repositioning the base stations and try to find a working spot for them. One would think three stations would be better than one...

How close to your HMD are your base station? Centered in front of you? High above?

I use my Lighthouse 2.0 trackers and Index controllers with my newer Vive Pro 2.

My tracking is fantastic with it, same as I had with the Index when I was using it.

I have not notice any degradation in tracking when I moved to the Vive Pro 2.

I also have no degradation in tracking with the VP2, it's the same as the VP1 and as the Index.

Either there is a broken sensor in your headset, or the issue is with the room setup. It looks like a decent setup, I see no mistake with it, unless the basestations would not be properly synced. Assuming they are, it's hard to tell what may be the problem. You have them mounted at 2.2m height, right? They point towards the center of the room - to the ground, not to the head. Almost 45° downwards, yea?

Yes, more or less. But like I said, I have no problem whatsoever when standing in the room. Only when sitting at the desk.

Ill try to rearrange the lighthouses some more. If I could find a position with only one that works, I would be content, since I have three lighthouses.

Around 1,5 m away and on the right side a little bit more as 2 m high
