Which to get first and why? (DCS F-86F or DCS Mig-21bis)

Yet another first World problem. I intend to get either the DCS F86F or the DCS Mig-21bis, this Summer, and wait till a sale to purchase the one that I don't purchase this Summer. Which one is the best to have first, this Summer, and why? Thank you to the community for your consideration of my request.

Personally, the MiG looks to be the more interesting aircraft of the two, though I'm sure the Sabre will be a gem. Nice to have the choice...

Gentlemen, you are all making great observations. Both plane have character and speed. Like Andy, I too think that the Mig may be more interesting, but I am not positive about this. I think that both are going to be fantastic.

 

How about this, which would be the better multiplayer ride and why, this Summer?

Yes, then I could have a jet age LaGG-3 type experience. I do enjoy the LaGG-3 a great deal in multiplayer, so I bet I would have a lot of fun trying to hit a ground target, bomber, or transport plane, while avoiding and surviving the fearsome F-15s lurking about. I could think of it as an aerial horror survival game.   That would be exciting.

This is another thing the Mig-21 has going for it. Some skin maker is inevitably going to make a Mig-21bis version of the, "Bunny Fighter."

Yes, the Sabre is lovely looking. When there is a Mig-15bis, I am going to enjoy sim-flying both, as I like both, a whole lot. Now, if there was a Mig-17, with afterburner and missiles, I would be rocking the Mig-17. The Mig-17 will probably be one of my favorite underdog planes, if it comes out. Incidentally, I was thinking about the possibility of using the Sabre against the Mig-21bis, where the Mig-21bis would stand in for the F4 and the F86F would stand in for the Mig-17. I don't know how accurate that analogy is, but I thought it was intriguing. Also, I thought that sim flying the Mig-21 against the Sabre, missiles only for the Mig, would be interesting, too.  MJ

Right now the Mig-21 is undergoing a process to have it integrated into DCS World, then it will be released. I suspect it will be out in July or August. The Mig-15bis is apparently getting made. I suspect that we won't see that plane until 2015, but I could easily be wrong. There is no Mig-17 being made, as of yet, at least not one that I am aware of, SOP.  MJ

Hmm, I have been thinking about this. The Sabre, Fagot, and Fresco, are the three dogfighters that I really want. I suppose if I get the Sabre, they will match the Sabre up against the Sabre and the Fishbed. Then I could practice with such matchups, until the Fagot is in game. Then I can experiment with sim-flying the Fagot. That is a great option, Feathered. I am still on the fence about this matter. The Mig-21 will be really neat, but my favorite jet age dogfighter, other than the F-16 Falcon, is the Fresco. The Sabre is as close to a Fresco as I will be able to get, till the Fagot is in game. I have to think it all over.

Here is a plus in the favor of the Sabre. You can put historically accurate skins on with kangaroos. I really admire Australia

and if I get the Sabre, I think I am going to make my personal ride Sabre an RAAF, one.  After all, the RAAF symbol is freaking cool! How could I turn down a kangaroo for my rondelle?

To be 100% historical we'd need an Avon Sabre with the 30mm  ADEN guns. But I guess I'd just turn a blind eye and fly the F with RAAF marking when it's released!

What I meant was that it's one of the last planes where the pilot had to get eyes on the enemy plane and then maneuver up close into a gun kill position. Not long after planes were getting radar and missiles and it all starts to get a bit too technical for my tastes.

I'm not a jet sim guy by any means but I've always wondered why hasn't some good company made a full out Vietnam sim. I mean a really good one. You could have Hendrix in the intro or CCR what ever. I think it would be great.

 Mig-21bis is not a very technical plane, radar more or less a copy of the one on Mirage F.1 or so. No bar scans or GMT or SEA modes. Very limited range way less than 100km and single target tracking ability. But is has the GsH-23-2 gun with 200rds and ROF of over 2000rds/min. That would turn a Sabre to a heap of scrap in one burst. Frankly Sabre would not stand a chance of a snowball in hell against the Mig-21bis unless the Mig pilot would be totally brainless and try to turn fight with Sabre.

 

 Mikha, the pilots seemed to like it. It was fast at 2.05M and still one of the fastest, if not fastest, rate of roll in jets. It also turned decently and most importantly it worked in almost any weather or field condition. No need for fancy stuff to operate the thing Cockpit is typical Russian from arrangement to coloring..and smell  It was an interesting and challenging plane.

Yep, the F86F may be the closest we can get to simulate an Australian Sabre. When i do eventually get the Sabre, this Summer or later,  I will definitely make her an RAAF machine. I already have a name for her and everything. I am going to name her Freya, after the actress Freya Tingley.

Yeah, planes like the Sabre, Fagot, and Fresco, really hold my imagination, what with all of their WVR capabilities and their pleasant lack of ten thousand buttons to push.

The Mig-21 sounds very intriguing. I am most concerned about being the chew toy of the F-15 specialists in multiplayer, but I could see the Mig-21 being a great deal of fun. At some point, I will definitely get the Mig-21, if not this Summer, eventually. Hech, i have already named my Mig-21. She will be named Marcia lura, after the seductive shopkeeper from the novel, The Howling.

I have thought of this. There is a FW 190 Dora up for inclusion, this Summer. While I don't want to role play as a Nazi pilot, I could make a paint scheme for a fictional mercenary plane and imagine that I am shooting at other mercenaries. I may opt to take the Summer easy and use a Dora, this Summer.

They will shine, once we have the Mig-15 in for the F-86 and we have an F5 or something for the Mig-21. Against the F-15, they really are in for a hard time.

I'll be getting both, those MiG screenshots look amazing, so much detail in the 3D model. I find the modules are worth every penny as they are so in depth they are like the old study sims of one aircraft we bought years ago like Falcon and Flanker etc.

While I'll be getting both no doubt it'll definitely be the Sabre first as that's coming out in 1.2.9 in July. The Mig is dependent on the major 2.0.0 version being released with EDGE and there's no firm date on that other than "later in 2014".
