Rapierarch Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 (edited) First of all thank you for the update. I have some suggestions as a new player if you might consider for the following development. Please add support to use hotas keys as modifier keys. IL2 is the only one which does not allow it and I'm getting headaches to make it work with virtual joysticks. It sometimes does not work and that's really annoying. I have never struggled so much to set up controllers for sim. I'm a VR player and i cannot use the keyboard. Is there any plans to switch to TAA? MSAA is super taxing the gpu and to get the good result in VR with that a gpu with enough horsepower is not for the price for peasants like me. I have modded to openVR with the AMD FSR mod with good results. Can you implement it in the game permanently Thanks again, I`ll be waiting to see the new clouds. AEthelraedUnraed Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 (edited) First of all, welcome to the forums! It's a nice change to finally see someone post his suggestions in a respectful, non-condescending tone. Thank you! Regarding your first point, I know it's not a total replacement for modifier keys, but note that you can double-map many key combo's since most planes only use a very limited set. For instance, I've mapped one HOTAS key as the boost switch. On WW1 aircraft, this instead functions as the blip switch. This works pretty well since, AFAIK, none of the planes that have a boost switch also have a blip switch, and vice versa. This way, I have more than enough keys on my T.16000 setup. That said, a modifier key would be very nice indeed. Regarding TAA, an extra option would be nice but TAA certainly isn't perfect; it can lead to ghosting for fast-moving targets, of which there are plenty in IL2. If you want more performance, you can already use FXAA, which is slightly faster than TAA albeit at some cost to AA quality. Nothing wrong with extra options though. Regarding FSR, yes it's great but personally I don't think it should be enabled by default, given that it has a couple of drawbacks too. Besides a slightly reduced visual quality, it renders the edges of your screen at a noticeably lower resolution. If you have very good lenses and tend to look out the corner of your eyes, it might hence lead to a worse experience than with the default settings. For most people, it won't be much of a problem but for others it might, so hence I'd go for the simpler solution (the current one) as the default and keep FSR as a mod. Rapierarch Posted August 11, 2021 Author Posted August 11, 2021 Thanks for nice welcome. I have already flown my first online game and I'm in love with the community already here. I have followed a lot of tutorials and yes I know the double mapping and I have done it already. But still since I cannot use any keyboard in VR I do not have enough keys so still running virtual joystick only for IL-2 (since all other sims support modifiers) which is not always reliable and sometimes it does not work that part is cumbersome. I believe it is not hard to do since DX11 game controller system allows it already. It is just the game binding editor does not allow it I guess. I hope it will come soon. TAA works wel in Warthunder for years and also in MSFS. There is no ghosting in any of the games. But the DLSS implementation of WarThunder is not good. That causes a lot of ghosting for the rest TAA is really good. FSR just made me to run the game in Ultra instead of Balanced. So it is a day and night difference for me. They do not need to enable it by default. They can just implement it so that we can change the settings in game. I actually would love to see DLSS implementation but it requires TAA support. A correct implemented DLSS makes wonders. If ghosting was not a problem super sampling with DLSS balanced was butter smooth in warthunder actually. But unfortunately unusable in a combat sim. It erases the planes flying over forests for example. FSR looks like it just works. So why not. If I can implement it by copy paste I guess developers can do a way better job in an hour.
Hoss Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 LOL, I've read your posts twice and I know AEthelraed is using a TM T.16000, but I don't know what you are using. Could you please tell us what joystics or HOTAS you are using and what software you are running along side it to get it's full potential realized at your fingertips. Where there is a will there is a way, as GSgt Highway so eloquently puts it "Adapt and Overcome" IL2's limitations. There isn't much I can't get the TMWH to do with TARGET and my b-explorer "A" to do with joytokey all running at the same time, not counting the Crosswinds under the desk. Trust me when I say I'm no programmer/coder and I have been able to get some pretty nifty stuff done with both controller's software, if this forgetful old brain can do it you should have an easy time with it. I will admit there are some problems with the coding of key commands in game or it's just my systems. Auto Pilot which I do not use in Expert, but you can use level Stab, I got rid of (deleted all the commands in A/P) and I use A for level stab. I also have problems with brakes/bombs and a couple of other things, so I just change the command dropping bombs is "B" but releasing parking brake will sometimes drop your bombs, WEP/Boost will have issues too, so they are now LSht + X and LSht + Z which were A/P settings. You only have to delete it's default command in the settings gui page and assign it to the new command. Since I only fly in Expert mode all the camera F2-F11 commands are up for grabs. I do use F11 in all comms programs for PTT and F1 (player cockpit) as my TIR center command, which I leave where it. Now ThrustMaster TARGET software will allow you to use F13-F24, so that's twelve more commands than you had to start with, and then there is the IN/OUT function on the stick, which can be your "Shift" function, but mine is either IN or OUT along with the UP/Middle/Down functionality on the Throttle. I'll get on comms and teach anyone who is interested on how to use TARGET. Joytokey will do some of the same things as TARGET, which is nice. Cheers Hoss
