Popular Post ACG_pezman Posted August 4, 2021 Popular Post Posted August 4, 2021 My dad came up to visit me and I decided that I would make him try IL-2 in VR. He'd tried the game a long time ago before VR was available and wasn't too impressed - nor disappointed - just like, "yeah, that was a flight sim." However, this time he was like a kid, a 74 year old man - former H-34 Choctaw pilot and private pilot - and he was loving it. This man introduced me to my love of aviation with MSFS 95 and "Fleet Defender" yet I had never been able to return the favor with a game he enjoyed... until now. I put him in the A-20 because he always liked twin engine aircraft, but I guess I didn't make it known, so he asked me why he had two RPM and MP gauges. I told him he had two engines and to look to his left and right, which he did, and he lost it when he saw each engine. I was dying, he was having so much fun, it had to have taken 30 years off his age. Last night you would have sworn that he was really flying with all the fun he was having, and now I can't wait to wreck his retirement with a VR setup and IL-2. 48 1 11
SCG_motoadve Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Had a friend over for a weekend, he used to fly Reno air races, owned P51s, P47, P40, and a Vietnam pilot vet. I could not take him off my PC the whole weekend, he loved IL2 in VR. 1 1

Jaegermeister Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 That's what happens... you get VR, and you can't go back... 2
GOA_Karaya_VR Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Totally agreed, i already introduce 2 friends into VR ( Both Il-2 Virpils ) and because of this, they move in every Sim to only use VR, once you enter in a VR Cockpit you can't go back to monitor or Track ir. 1
BornToBattle Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Sigh…yeah. I can relate to the OP, if only in my imagination. My dad and my uncle are both gone now damnit cuz I know each of them would have LOVED to see IL2 in VR. My dad was an industrial designer by trade and made many 1/32 WW2 aircraft for me way back when to hang in my room. My uncle I introduced to PC flight simming via means of one of the earlier MSFS editions. He was quite content to just sit there with me and watch all the AI traffic landing at one of the major airports, seriously. I can only imagine what they would say now with the latest tech. I often think of them while flying about. Glad you could share with your dad OP. I would have liked to have been there and seen that. 2 hours ago, Jaegermeister said: That's what happens... you get VR, and you can't go back... It really is, PARTICULARLY true when it comes to IL2 and VR. I don’t know why I love it so much better in IL2 than VR in other flight sims, of which I have several. Perhaps it’s the way it’s optimized or just the love of WWI and WW2 machines - or both. Either way, even with sharp 4K graphics it really is hard to go back to pancake mode. It really takes you out of the immersion level, period. Nothing like having to crane your neck around left and right wondering where that bandit just shot to through the cloud banks or physically having to lean forward to check out some cockpit gauges. 1 1
