Stumbled across this, and figured I'd give it a try:  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4720263

Finished a quick flight with the P-39, and wow!  This is AWESOME!  It does kick things up a bit!

I printed the first set of speaker adapters using PLA.  The author said to use PETG, but I had PLA in the 3D printer and ready.  So why not.  I did the install, and one of the tabs broke off.  But, it still held in place with 3 tabs instead of 4.  (I printed with a 80% infill, but still the PLA isn't up to the task for a little bending action from the install).

I did not permanently mount the pad covers with the supplied 3M tape setup.  Knowing now, I'll do another print with a PETG version, and then mount with via the 3M.   For the prototype I used a Velcro setup.  It worked fine, even though you see a gap in the picture, it does seal up when you put the HMD on your noggin'.

Regardless, this is an awesome mod.  Prior to the install, I could barely hear my Wife.  Now, there's no way in "heck" I'll hear her with this mod.

Interesting. I’m tempted, but at the same time, I’m happy with the audio of the G2. I hear stuff outside the sim when the furnace/ac fan runs (my setup is 8ft from the furnace), or kids make extra noise right next door. I keep sound level at 40%, so increasing the sound would be an easier solution for me ?

Furnace?  what is that??  Only AC around here my man...  ?

Indeed, there's always the option to "crank it up" with the existing setup.  Cool beans!

Hmm, interesting. The audio, in my opinion, is the weakest point of the G2. This mod may be the ticket. Thanks for sharing.

If you're audiophile, probably the weakest point on any headset. Even earplugs beat the standard solutions. And the G2 had my ears constantly exposed to my PC's fans.

That’s one thing I’m thankful for the hybrid card I have. Even though GPU temperatures are slightly below the air cooled ones, there’s very little fan noise involved.

I do have a watercooled setup. The 3090 is so huge and well cooled, I don't really hear it, so it's about the case fans.

The Ryzen 5900X spikes so hot that the fans ramp up sometimes, and the case is on the desk right next to me. But even if I play roomscale and it was 3m away, I'd still notice it and it would bug me, for lack of an average filter IRL.

I did the mod a few months ago and it is great. I hated the audio on the G2 compared to my CV1.

You do need to equalize the audio after the mod since the bass boost is too much. I used the excellent Equalizer APO with the Peace front-end.

The eq curve needs to aggressively boost the highs and cut the mid bass. Best mod to G2 imo.

Neat, I should give this mod a try come winter time.

I too get quite aggravated by unnecessary fan noise. To this end I use Argus Monitor to control radiator fan curves by liquid temperature in my setup thus avoiding the spikes from the core temp reading and just keep specific fans tuned to their highest inaudible output to keep the motherboard and other components adequately cooled. Of course, yes, this does require having a liquid temp sensor, and verging-on-OCD fan curve tuning...
