EA is EA ?

Didn't you mean "ED" instead of "EA"? ("ED" for "Eagle Dynamics"). Only asking as I'm not sure about the meaning of "EA".

Other than that, I beg you guys stop all of these pointless comparisons between sims. Makes very few sens to make them since we simply need to be patient and, sooner or later, get a better "Cliffs of Dover". On top of that, DCS, as a concept, is radically different than our survey-type "Cliffs of Dover".

Back to the Spitfire 4K texture:

I'm sorry to say, but it appears to me a lot too glossy.

Some modern warbirds are currently covered with glossy paint to have them easier to clean, but wartime camoflages were matte to avoid the reflections of the sun that would make them spotted from afar...

Obviously, Truesky appears to be a great step forward  :)

Generalizations are dangerous.

Yes, I know planes were sometimes polished to gain speed in flight (and also enough often washed, I suppose), and appeared more and more satin as time passed...

Anyway, this is simply a question of logic: what would be the interest of a glossy paint on a camouflaged plane? A simple flash of sunlight would make the plane viewable  on the ground or under an hostile plane (canopies and other transparent surfaces were enough)

Glossiness is dangerous  ?

I may be completely wrong on this, but I had assumed that the main reason for having slightly more glossy skins in a sim is to give a better impression of 3D in the graphics. An historically matt finish would actually give an impression of less realism to the viewer.

In my humble opinion, those photographs posted by J-Hat are self-explanatory: the planes "covers" or "skins" (what's the English term for that?), made out of aluminium, presented extremely smooth surfaces. The application of one or two coats of painting didn't fade all the aluminium's smoothness, and this is what we see on the above photos. At least regarding that, the game is pretty close to the reality. And I love it as it is.
