I have asked on FB but is there anything TF can do to get rid of the striped herring bone shadows on the aircraft? The 4k skin looks great but the striped shadows really detract from it.

I am sure Kling found a fix for this but it doesn't look like it has been progressed? Screenshot_20210731-093949_Chrome.thumb.jpg.7bcbdb753a3eb2cfe45386ee6af93e14.jpg

Yep, see it too and agree. It is off putting esp with all that effort thats gone into 4K skins to be detracted by it. Other than that they look good.

Look nice, can you show us some 4k terrain textures from the Tobruk map :)

Terrain textures are a WIP.  Soon as we have images that we are comfortable in sharing, we will. ?

When 4k started rolling out for BoX - I didn't see the big deal. However, here I do - the improvement is impressive!

(That said, I also came around with BoX when it came to cockpits - the crisper details on the dials and gauges made reading them faster!).

You cannot compare BoX and CoD TF. BoX are a team who make a living from it and have a lot of people around them, but TF are "volunteers" who develop and create CoD from a once unfinished simulator, they do it in their free time, so it is clear that everything will take longer, so give them that time, but they probably don't like to keep repeating it when someone compares them to developers who make a living from it. They do a great job, but they just have their limited time and they don't have that many people ... :)

4k Cockpits are being worked on too.

This effect is a function of the users AAA settings on his video card... it can be corrected with the proper settings.

Thank you. I have so far not been able to find that sweet spot. Could you share the settings that remove them from Nvidia please?

I don't have time... I am too busy working to get the visual update and new module ready.

Please talk to Molders from the ATAG forum.

Quick reply ( Sorry I have limited time available too )

1- Install last Nvidia drivers

2- Set exactly the video card settings like indicated here: https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34326&p=365179&viewfull=1#post365179

3- In game options settings

4- Additional note: for the ones using Fast Vsync set Triple buffering: Off

Note somehow that to have VSync working correctly you need to match certain parameters. If you have no idea how Fast Vsync works set VSync ON and Triple Buffering ON

I agree... although I believe that a lot of the conversion of BoX to 4k was done by community volunteers as well.

The point of my comparison was that I'm really noticing and appreciating the improvement - especially in Cliffs of Dover - where it seems the improvement is more dramatic than in BoX... so I recognise the comparison isn't reasonable, but in this case, it is saying that TF seems to be impressing me even more than BoX (and BoX is pretty impressive).

First up - the pointy bit:

Looking through Molder's post it appears to be less of an AA setting tweak and more of a complete dispatch of it. The shadow stripes appear at all resolutions especially on the wings and no AA at 1080p is damn ugly. Thats not really a solution, its just avoiding the issue. IF that is the issue.

Now to the other bits which, I confess,  go against everything I thought I knew (which is limited, I can keep track of it easily,- trust me) and possibly still do.

The triple buffering thing is interesting as its long been stated that TB isnt supported in D3D via an nvidia driver. (of course doesnt preclude an unintended, undocumented and beneficial effect somewhere in the chain). Accessing it via the NCP whilst in windowless mode shouldnt work even it it was according to common wisdom.

The use  and manner of use of a boarderless?? window (Pseudo) is also befuddling. I have always assumed such introduces Triple Buffering via windows (Wind 8 onwards certainly) itself and that  the use of Vsync from the game effectively limits the output of the game engine 1:1 to the refresh thus theoretically preventing the production of any additional frames for the TB to use which, in turn, makes TB redundant. Additionally my understanding is that a boarderless window cannot utilize the Vsync settings from the NVP thus making the selection of Fast Sync ineffective.

All my own experience over the years has affirmed a believe in me that  such combinations are the least ideal. I also never heard of TB being associated with reducing such graphical artifacts.

Anyhow if it works -great. Just not sure how or why.

Sadly I cant load Clod at present to try it out but its something ill certainly have a go at.

Copied all settings one to one and didn‘t help. Had some more shimmering though and more aliasing from the looks of it, even if very minor.
Went back to what I had before which works for me. Albeit with the striped shadows. Which I barely notice.

And I just realized I didn‘t even comment on the 4k improvements.

I am really looking forward to this and think the screenshot (and the others in the other thread) looks great! Really happy that the stencils are readable now. Can‘t wait to look outside the cockpit over the wing and reading the writing on the walk areas.

Somehow I‘m forgetting how to write…

Click on the images to enlarge them, double click if you want to see them in full resolution, triple click if you want to magnify the detail of interest.

Images unedited. I've done nothing " magical ".

I've simply well calibrated my video card settings, in-game options and monitor settings.

To the developers: what about the adjustable visual weathering on the aircraft's skins? is this option about to be cancelled because of the 4K implementation?

The weathering system will work over any skin/texture as it already does, mate! (including 4k)

The 4k textures are just an extra ?
