[F.Circus]Gorn_Captain Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Finished my attempt at a rather unusual post-war scheme for the Brisfit. Had to take a few liberties owing to limited (and contradictory information) but I reckon it's come out looking rather nice. A very happy crocodile enjoying his lunch: https://gfycat.com/thornyadoredbluefintuna http://aviadejavu.ru/Images6/MY/MY77-5/27-2.jpg There's some arguments over whether the checks were black or red, so a black version is also available: All available on HSD now! I may tweak it to fit on the falcon 2 brisfit too if I have the time this week. 4 1
RNAS10_Oliver Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 (edited) Just going through the books and etc for some more Camels of the RNAS to paint. And came across an photograph of this Bristol the caption states that the unit was 33 Training Depot Station. The source (Cross & Cockade International Volume 44/3) goes with the belief that paintwork represents an sharks mouth instead (does look more croc-ish to me also though) with red and white checker. But whatever the case the aircrafts serial is shown as being C4879, and painted on the fin appears to follow the colours of the checker (red/black on the white squares and white on the red/black squares). Also you can see in the photographs that the under surfaces of the wings are also done in the checker pattern. Also shows the wheels in something other than white (presumably the dark check colour) though might look as though there is some weathering there showing something lighter underneath? So maybe the wheels were repainted at some point, changing their colour? Not an criticism btw (looks a difficult one to paint) more just providing more information and another reference image should they be helpful. EDIT: realised the link under the photo in your post is for another image. Interesting. As looks like they did repaint the wing and wheels at some point then, changing the wheels and under surfaces of wings. Edited July 28, 2021 by RNAS10_Oliver
[F.Circus]Gorn_Captain Posted July 28, 2021 Author Posted July 28, 2021 Thank you! That's an excellent find, I'd not seen those two photographs before! From what I gathered it seems to have had two separate paint schemes, with the later one having the tail number, underside wings and wheels painted. I decided to do the earlier one as that's what I had the best image of. Though the differences aren't too great that making a version of both should be pretty simple now that I've got a better look. I wish I'd had this image when drawing the art, my rendition of the mouth is pretty different in dimensions. I'll have to redraw it, should be a lot easier with that image though. Interesting that the cowling seems to be painted white (or a very light colour) rather than the entire thing shaded like the crocodile's skin. Looks like I was a bit premature in celebrating my completion!

It’s that which makes the thing look more crocodile-ish that shark-ish to my eyes. 1

I'd definitely recommend giving HSD a whirl, it's a lovely tool, but here's the files separately, enjoy! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1fuTNwXnSjORvVu8EGuKYGKl-RBZ0t52L?usp=sharing
