needless to say, be kind  :P

..my only thought so far is that the last thing I'd want to do when facing a Tiger tank is sticking my head out of the turret, but hey, Hollywood knows better  ;)

"It's 5 against 300"

"We never run before why we gonna run now?"

Lines like this and the idea of a one tank deadly mission behind enemy lines don't fill me with hope. Still it'll apparently have the only surviving operational Tiger I in it so that's kind of interesting at least.

This looks like it could actually be good! :)

Not 100% on the realism scale, but a far cry from the ridiculous war flicks of the last couple of years, and with really nice looking battle scenes.

About popping your head outside during battle: I have read a lot of accounts of tank commanders riding with their heads out in battle for maximum SA. The risk of having your head blown off by a shell is miniscule. The greatest threat to an exposed commander would propably be infantry.

Somehow I miss the "morale off" style of the old war flicks.

Will watch this for sure as unbiased as I can.... woof woof woof that's my other dog imitation.

the more he gets older, the more Brad Pitt looks like Robert Redford..

Give me "Kelly's Heroes" any day rather than this tosh.

Oh for a tankie movie or mini series on the level of "Band of Brothers" .

No offence to the Yanks but I think I'm gonna puke if I see another movie or series focusing on them, there is only so much chest punching one can take, let's have a true story for a change.

Not much of a tankie. Who are the, "line level," tank commanders? Only one I can think of is Michael Wittmann and probably not gonna get Hollywood to fund that pic.

There is one truly great tank movie. It's called "Lebanon" and will likely not be surpassed in its intensity, gritty realism and sense of claustrophobia.

I'll take this for what it looks to be: A decent adrenalin pumping flick with some intense, well made action sequences. A "Saving Private Ryan"-light, complete with a preposterous plot, desaturated colors, impressive reenactment of combat scenes and passably good acting. Should be plenty of fun.

Yeah, who am I kidding.....I'll almost certainly watch and enjoy it and still wave a secret stars and stripes.

You might want to skip the next HBO miniseries on the Mighty Eight then ;-)

Another typical US-Hollywood crap about WW2 to represent the brave and hillarious and infamous super tough US troops facing the horrible and throughout bad Nazi scum , which actually were either wounded veterans with wooden legs ,2nd class or 16-17 yrs old boys.

Yes, that is what was needed next.:wacko:

Wondering when we ll be able to consume a Hollywood movie about the US failure in Iraq? What is the incubation time about? 20 years, like Vietnam movies?

I like the look of it.  There are never enough armor movies ;-)

I wonder if the TC could really rest against his hatch combing when the main gun fired and not have it be a memorable experience.

Is Brad Pitt posing for a statue?

Think a couple of blokes have a bit of a man-crush going on here....not that there is anything wrong with that! ;)

My problem with these WWII flicks is that the men I knew for that era (father and his relatives) didn't talk that way. They didn't cuss as bad as people do today, and they certainly didn't sit around and delve deep into the philosophical issues of war. A joke here and there, but no deep discussions, especially since most had basic educations. They were mostly reticent about the war.

I guess Britain will have to make a war movie if one wants to see other than Yanks.

I sometimes get the impression that a society's ability to produce a decent film about war runs in a directly inverse proportion to their willingness to wage it.

...or the Germans (who do make awesome war movies from time to time) or the Russians (who have the potential, but need better writers and directors tbh) or the Japanese (who just needs to stop making joint ventures with Hollywood and do their own thing instead) or the Mexicans (please, please let Guillermo Del Toro make a true war movie on the Spanish Civil war)

S!

Some of the very few and good WW2 movies were made by Sam Peckingpah. No chest beating or similar, gritty and violent with quite nice attention to detail as well. Germans could make great WW2 movies from their side, but been IMHO beaten with the "naahzeeh" card too long. It would just cause an uproar again by some people that Germans can not be portrayed as humans in a WW2 related movie. They HAVE to be evil mindless murderers at all times because winners told so. I have read quite a few memoirs of an ordinary Wehrmacht or Luftwaffe soldier to see that they were just like anyone, young men caught in a whirlwind of events leading to WW2.

These hollywood movies belittle the sacrifice and suffering from all sides, glorifying certain aspects and falsifying history in the name of cash making. Dunno..would be great to see other than Allied side war movies where they run on a shooting range popping seemingly idiotic enemies in droves.

I'd like to see the Germans make a good Air War over Germany film.

I'd personally like to direct a film of Denis Barnham's tour of operations on Malta.  ;)

As tempting as that may sound, I actually think that would be really difficult to make both realistic and entertaining.

A movie or TV series based on the exploits of JG 52 in the east would provide far more drama and lots of really interesting characters.

Oh, hell yeah but a little more serious/gritty. I have enjoyed this series on disk recently but it is a little campy at times.

there's no way to have a "fair" depiction in a war movie without gushy sentimentality and the all too obvious depiction of a sympathetic german soldier for the sole purpose of pandering to those making the "why only show american hero" complaint.

not to mention it's unnecessary, people who have to be shown explicitly that the germans weren't mindless evil entities are too young for r-rated features anyway. it only serves to dilute the narrative.

like people calling for depiction of brits in saving private ryan. lol, you want crazy editing showing juno, gold, and sword beach lands too? how about the other participants of the war effort while we're at it. no, it's useless pandering to those who don't understand that a film, despite it being history focuses, is not a comprehensive documentary.

anyway, the film still looks like crap mainly because of the inaccuracies and melodrama rather than the alleged chest thumping american hero nonsense, which to me is more or less a perception problem and imaginary.

You're just mad because you live in a bomb crater my Grandfather put there in his A-26 Invader.

BTW what Military did you serve in? I myself served 16 years in the most powerful Navy the world has ever known. How about you? Our soldiers did not fail, or lose, or give up. Our leadership failed them. So, please keep spouting off at the mouth about things you know nothing about.

If you are brave enough, walk up to one of our soldiers in you best blue dress and hair bow and say that to him/her and get the facts stamped into your jawbone. And yes it probably will be 20 years before enough information becomes de-classified to make a film. And maybe....just maybe were the kind of people that want to let the grief of the families who lost loved ones during this 10+ year war settle enough to even talk about it. If you have brothers or sisters that serve imagine losing one of them and people like you calling them failures and slandering their courage to fight and dedication to duty. And if it were one of your kids?

If you have anything releveant to say to this PM me. Because I will not respond to you here after this.
