Great question.

Otherwise it's a hard pass for me.

After playing Post Scriptum a few times last year, I decided that I’d rather be a virtual septic tank diver than be a virtual infantryman, and have no particular real-world interests in either endeavor, so… sorry Tycoon, I’m afraid Sea Serpent is going to have to give this one a thumbs down, in my humble opinion.

How bout virtual tank driver? The tanking aspect of this game is excellent, much better than the infantry imo. Most of my time in the game has been tanks.

Remember the beginning of the Blue Max, when he’s in the mud and guts of the trenches, and then he hears the planes up above?  If you’re going to simulate war, wouldn’t you rather be above all that s$^t, in an Mi-24P gunship, with twin-barreled 30mm, and 5 inch rockets raining hell and fury from above, impervious to small arms fire?

I've been meaning to check out Hell Let Loose.  I enjoy Post Scriptum when your with a good squad, just so hit and miss though as it still doesn't have that many active servers to play in on any given night (in the States)

To begin with, if you are going to simulate war, you don't put George Peppard to play a german ... anything!

Yeah, but who are you going to get to play Stachel?  His character is his character, right?  If you got Samuel L. Jackson to play him, it would be a totally different character.  He would see the planes up there, and be like f*ck you, you muthafu…., so it just wouldn’t be the same guy.

What a pity - without bots I‘m out.

Off topic:

I like the blue max! I always wait for Stachel to light up a cigar and tell his comrades that he loves it when a plan comes together. ^^

Why shouldn’t Peppard play a German? The story isn’t German either. All this no real officer and no nobleman thing is more a British theme. It might have occurred in higher German staff but I never read about it in any book concerning frontline units. And just like in WWII the majority of aviators were enlisted men.

Is this game any better than Post Scriptum or they're much the same?

I picked up PS ages ago but probably played less than an hour. It looked a decent game but every squad I joined seemed like it was full of excitable and screeching teenagers. Haven't gone near it since.

Hell let Loose is faster paced and action is more frantic, a bit too fast for me tbh.

I found players to be quite similar as in PS, and fortunately I didn't experience those screeching teens in either game.

Servers are packed 24/7.?

Haven't decided on this one yet.. I'm either getting to old for the fast paced titles, or somewhat sense I've been there and done that to many times over the years..

Large map environments are hard to pass on. Especially titles that provide assorted vehicles to choose from.

It's a bit of a hit or miss, if servers fade away and or there's no offline game play with Lan and or Ai.

Couple videos from playing commander yesterday.

Engineer gets a tank kill.

Soviet rocket barrage, you cant really see this one because the capture is bad but trust me you want to see one of these strikes in game, one of the most beautiful things ive seen in a video game.

Not played HLL for ages, but the times I did play it I thought it was one of the best WWII shooters I've ever played.

When you go into a building, it's like the people have just left, unlike the barren world of PS for instance, where all rooms are just bare.

You can't just run and gun in HLL, you will just die quickly. Get on comms with your section and work together.

Last time I played I was pinned down in a shell hole with some of the section, we were getting assaulted on all sides, very intense... we were told to hang on as tank support was on the way... it was manic!

When the tank turned up and saved our arses, we were all cheering that we had survived... brilliant stuff. (got killed 5 minutes later mind)

What are the vehicle options like, tanks and others, for the various sides?  Are the vehicles detailed enough in that regard that you could see it as a "sim" of sorts?   I'm on the verge of getting it, but 40 bucks can buy a lot of beer too, so I'm kind of on the fence.  I don't generally do these kinds of games, although as I previously noted, I do have P.S.  But I literally only played it 2 or 3 times before I shrugged and went back to Flight Sim.

Ok six, I went back and read the previous content including my own, and I get that you don’t like HLL.  But what is it that turns you off in particular, vs other kinds of games like these?

Vehicle options are for USA are 76 jumbo,75 jumbo, medium Sherman long barrel, Stuart, and greyhound, German is tiger, panther, luch, puma. The vehicles are not detailed like TC not even close, no interiors. Tanks have 3 crew positions that have to be manned to work no multitasking. If you get it send me an invite the learning curve is brutal, playing with experienced players will help speed it up a lot.
