new java 8 not compatible?

Hey trying to launch PWCG after a few years on a new system, the available version of java to install doesn't seem to pass the PWCG launch check and keeps asking to install java.  Does anyone know if this java works after the GPL change up?  Help please!

It has to be the 64-bit Java (in case that's your issue), 32-bit won't work.
