Young9425 Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Hi Guys. I am new to all this. Flight Sims and Joystick settings. So please bear with me. I probably don't know a lot of the jargon either. My issue is pretty straight forward to some extent and may, if nothing else, reflect the fact that I just don't know what I am doing. Essentially it seems that when I am in any plane the plane wants to drift down to the right. I set up the X52 Pro to trim the rudder. I can adjust this and get the plane to more or less stay horizontal and following the line I want on the map. But still the plane seems to be aligned to a rightward setting. Aileron trim doesn't seem to have any impact at all. I can't see any effect. I have checked the joystick calibration settings and they all seem correct both in the game and in Windows. I believe this is a hardware problem that the stick (all new by the way) may have an adjustment glitch. On another side issue. I must be confused on how to set up the rudder. I use pedals. My thinking is that pushing the left pedal the plane should move to the right as I am aligning both pedals in that direction. However, in the game it seems that it is the opposite. So, I check the reverse action button and it seems to be correct. But, when I look at the airplane from behind it seems that the visual movement of the rudder is opposite of what I expect. So, pushing the left rudder pedal causes the rudder to turn to the left. I presume that the go right the rudder needs to turn left. Is that not true? Looking forward to any response or assistance.. Ray I'm sorry. My last sentence on the original post was incorrect. So, pushing the left rudder pedal caused the rudder to turn to the left. I presume that to go right the rudder need to turn RIGHT. Is that not true?
HeavyHemi Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 I quit playing the game. Paid full price. It loses settings constantly on my X52 Pro. I don't have an hour to reset it every time. Every other game I have works fine with the same joystick. So for me, the game is complete garbage and a compete waste of my time and money. Thanks guys. 2

Trimming the rudder affects your "yaw", so when you trim your rudder but are still "aligned to a rightward setting" it sounds like you have not accurately trimmed the rudder. The jargon is important: a plane flies in three axes which are pitch, roll and yaw. The elevator controls pitch, the ailerons control roll, and the rudder controls yaw. Pushing your stick forward pitches the nose down; pushing your stick to the left/right rolls the aircraft to the left/right; pushing your pedals to the left/right yaws the aircraft to the left/right. 12 hours ago, Young9425 said: So, pushing the left rudder pedal caused the rudder to turn to the left. I presume that to go right the rudder need to turn RIGHT. You don't actually turn with the rudder; you yaw. Turning is accomplished by rolling the plane with your ailerons--the lift from your wings will push the plane in the direction you are rolled. The turn can be tightened by using the elevators. The turn is made most efficient by ensuring your plane is neither skidding nor slipping with the rudder. Edited July 23, 2021 by cardboard_killer
Young9425 Posted July 23, 2021 Author Posted July 23, 2021 Thanks for the reply and the explanations. I appreciate the input very much. I understand what you told me. I do understand the axis that the airplane rotates around and I do understand that a turn is developed using the ailerons and elevator. I am suspicious that either the HOTAS joystick or the rudder pedals aren't in proper alignment. I do the trim and still find the aircraft tending to the right. It is enough that taking of (using ANY plane) results in a need to offset with the joystick toward the left. Once I get the plane stabilized I need to trim the rudder to compensate. This DOES seem to have an impact and I can almost get it into balance. I try trimming the ailerons and don't really see any effect. When I test the joystick outside of the game using the calibration tools all the various adjustments show they are functioning. So, I presume this is a trimming situation. Because it is so pronounced I have to conclude that perhaps the controls are malfunctioning. I have spent more time in free flight trying to sort out the adjustments needs for straight and level flight. When I think I have it as close to trim as possible holding the horizon level I look at the compass and see I am still drifting right. It seems like the plane is skewing somehow. I don't want to over think all this. I can appreciate wind may be a factor. But no matter which direction I am flying the action is the same. I wish there was a way to tweak the rudder pedals or perhaps get the aileron trim to have more effect. Again, thanks for taking a minute to reply. I found it most encouraging and helpful. Ray
