Have to pay to view the files though, unless you can go to the Archives themselves.it seems you can't search bombers by pilots or navigators currently, which is a bit of a shame.

Just tried to find more info on my great uncle who piloted a Wellington and was shot down and killed on his first mission. The family know where his remains are (some village in Belgium) but I've never heard any details of the mission itself.

Thanks a lot for pointing this link out though, Sternjaeger.

Have you tried looking in the monumental "Bomber Command Diaries"? If you have an idea of dates, you should be able to find something.

I could download content for free? Perhaps it depends on the country you're looking at it from? PM the details, I'll have a look for you.

I think it depends on the network.. I'm at uni and we have access to archives like NA for free..

I remember they did that with the Evidence in Camera website too. About ten years ago they announced all the RAF photo reconnaissance images were being made available online. After the press release went around the world, the website crashed on the first day due to the number of visitors. They then got dollar signs in their eyes and came back two years later with a subscription based access.

Being at university would explain why they're free for you (as they should be). The same goes for research papers, GIS system etc. Universities are subscribed to all of them, making them free for students. I guess that makes up for some of the £9000 a year. :D
