Is it possible in a mission part of a campaign to avoid that when the player display the map (key O) or the minimap (key M) the enemy planes at least are not displayed, or even no planes displayed at all.

Yes.

If you name the plane or vehicle "NOICON" it will not show up with an icon on the map, the mini-map, or in the player's view.

But be aware that if the vehicle has radio and belongs to the player group, it'll still show the normal radio messages with "NOICON" as the callsign.

Usually not too much of a problem, but if you expect the aircraft to send a lot of radio messages, it's something you may want to consider.

The way I use it is to avoid have the enemy planes (only them) appear on the map on missions (solo missions) where the scenario requires that you must not see them on a map, for two reasons, surprise effect, and because you get radio indications, and I want the player to rely on that. Sure you can make it at least for the surprise by spawning them when needed but in my case spawning is not an option.

Then NOICON is indeed the perfect solution for you :)

Yep

Very useful to prevent players from ‘cheating’ by looking outside the canopy for red or blue squares - keeps night ops honest.

Also useful for using active planes as scenery since we have a limited supply of static planes.

Great for sneak attacks too, haha. Almost like real life.

I’ve been trying to get the Devs to give us useful static aircraft for years. We either don’t have them, or they’re so low-poly and ugly that you’re loath to use them at a players’s home airfield.

(Attacking from 300 meters fine)

’split the difference’ was my plea.

Statics/scenery are an essential tool.

That's a good one! Since I fly with icons off, it never really occurred to me that those aircraft will show up as a red marker for people who do use icons. Thanks for reminding me!

Yup, would be great to have more static objects. Not just aircraft - for FC1 there's not a single static vehicle for example.

It shouldn't be too much work for the Devs to create a static version of each aircraft if they just re-use the 3d model of the flying versions. It wouldn't give the same advantages regarding GPU cost as a separate and lower-poly model would give, but at least it would save the CPU cost of having an active object there. And in my experience, CPU is usually the bottleneck in this game.
