DD_bongodriver Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I thought I'd share a vid I took at the weekend while flying the Stearman, sorry it does have music but not all the way through, 10 whole minutes of wind rush and engine noise is a bit much https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjs1eFufRu8 4
Trident_109 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Why do you keep checking your six? Looking for bogies? Nice video. Thanks for posting it bongo.
DD_bongodriver Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Why do you keep checking your six? Looking for bogies? Nice video. Thanks for posting it bongo. Not far off, first point of airmanship is 'l kout', as an instructor I have to drum it into students so I should be pretty hot on it myself.
Sternjaeger Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 bah, that's definitely an overmodelled FM Cool stuff, are you based dahn safh then?
DD_bongodriver Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Until recently that Stearman was living at Manston, now Manston is closed it got moved to a farm strip near Folkestone and the rest of the club aircraft operate out of Lydd, I am indeed based daahn saarf.
303_Kwiatek Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Nice ride Bongodriver ! I like biplanes too lovlely machines. BTW is any chance to take Stearman for a spin? I got PPL(A) and a few hours on taildraggers. Edited June 23, 2014 by Kwiatek
DD_bongodriver Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Sure, obviously it would be a check ride first, how many hours taildragging you got? what types?
LLv34_Flanker Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) S! Nice video. Just strikes me how much less the plane bounces and wobbles through the air even there for sure is wind more than 1m/s Edited June 24, 2014 by LLv34_Flanker
DD_bongodriver Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 There was a good 10 Knots wind on the runway.
LLv34_Flanker Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 S! And still it did not wobble or bounce like having epileptic spasms
303_Kwiatek Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Sure, obviously it would be a check ride first, how many hours taildragging you got? what types? 100 hours total, PIC 50 hrs, ab. 65 hrs in taildraggers - PZL-104 Wilga and Zlin 526 F ( medium aerobatic level).
DD_bongodriver Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Where are you based? no Stearmans near you?
DD_bongodriver Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Well if you make plans to come to the UK in the warm months then we can sort out a day to go play in the Stearman, it's not my airplane so I can't do it for free sadly but I can get a concession.
sallee Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I hadn't realised Manston had closed. Out of the loop since I moved to the brooding fastnesses of the north. I found it on the BBC website which includes a pic of the Stearman. What a shame. Having said that, it looks at home flying off a farm strip.
DD_bongodriver Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 it's a lovely little spot, there is a vintage aircraft restoration company on site as well as a resident T-6, there are some treasures in the back of the engineering hangar The owner of the flying school is even considering keeping a permanent presence there even if Manston reopens.
sallee Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Treasures? Ooh, you tempter! Best not to tell, eh? Nice place to "work"!
DD_bongodriver Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 this is the on site engineering company http://www.vintageaero.co.uk/default.html

DD_bongodriver Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 It's all flying, the Cessna 152 is still one of my favourite aircraft. 1
