There's already a career mode with PWCG, and it was announced ages ago that a "stock" career mode will eventually be coming later in FC II's development.

All of this has been discussed both here and in the Announcements section. ?

To be honest, I don’t give a damn on any of the above.

I'll care about Flying Circus (or what this new WW1 series is called) when they add the Eastern and Italian maps and aircraft from those respected places into the game.

Nope, the career mode is for slow months when I don't have new planes and maps to be excited about.

Not sure how career is supposed to work for Central pilots with no planes to oppose Tripe and Spad 7. Where's an Albatros DII or DIII?

Tripe was used until late summer 1917, contemporary with Albatros D.V/early D.Va (the one we have...) and Pfalz D.III.

Spad 7 served until Armistice.

I reckon the career mode will boost sales significantly by those casual gamers who couldn't be bothered friggin' around with PWCG or MP and just want to get up in an old kite and shoot other old kites or bomb shit and get medals and stats and stuff. Relive The Great War in the air. In their own time. No schedules or web hassles. I don't think it matters what form it takes or what crates may or may not be available in the initial stages. It's about getting the punters in and go from there. We need 'em. So it's a good move and about time.

And if the sales ARE good enough it may prompt the devs, flush with rubles, to actually implement the following fixes/additions ....

1. Se5a energy loss/bleeding revs.

2. Crystal wings.

3. Excessive damage of control wires.

4. Untank the Fokkers.

5. Engine variants.

6. Belgium map including channel (Hanriot HD. 1f (optional)

7. 1916

In the old IL2, one used to be able to select any aircraft for missions - albeit that might have been the DBW modded up version.

At any rate, I used to be able to fly a '262 in all the missions - great fun !

So I'd recommend to the devs that they implement a 'mode' that could be selected, enabling all of your bought planes for selection in career (and mission) missions.

Blows open the offline possibilities and would hopefully enhance the game's appeal.

I care about (in order):

  1. Excessive damage of control wires
  2. Glass wings
  3. Expanded map(s)
  4. Soggy ground (makes it nearly impossible for mapmakers to place unofficial airfields and have them useful).
  5. Another 2 seater for Central (probably the DFW but would really like to see new ones)

While I enjoy this game and what’s going to be added (WW2 and TC), for FC, I’m sorry, I don’t care about FC and imo just want it to end after FC2 or go to another theatre like Eastern front or Italian for FC3+

I really don’t like how RoF was a pawn in the big picture of things.

If the devs really wanted to come back to WW1 (Western front 1916-18), they should have gotten another team to continue supporting RoF, charge a reasonable fee and this other team gets all the RoF revenue from 2016 onwards… no FC.

Sorry.

FC is a big step forward from RoF in many noticeable respects.  Before I got FC, RoF seemed fine to me but the few times I’ve gone back, it seemed to be a step back in most respects except number of airplanes modeled and the size of the map, both of which are being improved with the expansion of FC.  Continuing to develop RoF wouldn’t make much sense when the devs had the chance to update the engine the game used and developing other theaters, though I would like to see it, also doesn’t make sense as most of the aerial combat took place over the Western Front.  Hopefully, development will focus on the late-war Western Front so we can see a better flushed-out plane set with airplanes not present in RoF, such as the DH.9, FK.8, Albatros, Rumpler and Hannover two-seaters and Roland DVI.

Wait - on one hand you enjoy FC and what's being added but on the other you don't care about FC and just want it to end? Which one is it?

Yeah, unless you’re a VR user, the rest of things like the 4K skins and slightly updated graphics wouldn’t really affect your gameplay experience.

What I’m suggesting is that the devs get another team to continue supporting RoF. For example, 1C did not abandon IL-2 1946, they just moved on to develop another game (we all know what happened with that game) and gave the code to Team Daidalos so they could continue supporting IL-2 1946, which they’ve done a very good job at since ?

1C/777 also did not abandon RoF, they just moved on from it so they could focus their efforts on IL-2 GBs. That’s why I feel the better decision should be to get another team to continue supporting RoF. The devs have enough going on already with BoN and TC and we don’t need FC… at least at this time.

I don’t use VR.  The improvement is especially noticeable in the map, which has more detail overall and looks much more convincing.

RoF’s engine was worse than Il2’s when content for FC began being ported over, with the result that FC is more realistic than RoF was.

Is there plans to introduce the DIII to match up with the Tripe when it is released, that was it main opposition as I understand it and for a Career it would make sense.

So what sim will give a good SP Career right now?

If you're into SP, Wings over Flanders' Fields is unbeatable IMHO. The flight models and graphics are, honestly, pretty dated - but if you can live with that then there's nothing that comes close to being as immersive. The front really does feels 'alive', and the AI is first-class.

As for the Alb D.III, I'm guessing that'll come with FC3 (whenever that arrives), along with the rest of the 1917 scouts (Nieuport 17, etc).

At least in RoF your aircraft didn't explode and the pilot was instantly killed when hitting a fence at a speed of no more than 5 km/h, and when your left wing collided with the nose or top of another aircraft, both aircraft don't instantaneously explode and the pilot dies.

Also in RoF, when you hit the ground at a near vertical angle, your aircraft doesn't explode and the fuselage flies up a few hundred feet into the air and travels a horizontal distance of a few hundred feet before hitting the ground again.

I’ve played a lot of hours in both IL-2 and RoF, and as I’m reading this, found myself shaking my head saying aloud, “what in the heck is this guy even talking about?”  Never seen anything remotely like you describe in the IL-2 game engine.  Are you just being disingenuous?

I can’t comment on RoF because I missed that party, but I have seen similar things to what Enceladus has described.

I clearly remember landing on an air-start airfield on Flugpark and falling victim to the “sticky ground”. My aircraft nosed over as it gently coasted to a stop, landed on its back after the worlds most drawn out 10 second nose-over, and violently exploded. All without any sort of bomb-load onboard and absent of fuel leaks.

I’ve also seen my fuselage rocket skyward after becoming a mud-dart. Those babies can get some air, wings be damned.

Still, most of my collisions/wrecks in IL2 have been believable.
