Bestmann Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Why do a.i. controlled Panzer IV tanks always start with a raised gun in missions or campaigns? It doesn't make sence to me. Is it a bug?
JG1_Wittmann Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Someone told the devs about the gunlock position. They, like many other things regarding tanks, took it too literally and foolishly, and that is the default position now. Even though the reality is that when near a combat zone had the gunner placed the gun in the gunlock position his commander would have probably had him shot. It should not even be in game as no1 wants their gun pointing up when you are heading into combat 1
ShampooX Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Actually from my real world experience, modern tanks often lift the barrel when there's a round in the chamber and friendlies are near. At least they do nowadays. Not sure if this is a WW2 Panzer thing or not.
MajorMagee Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 The internal gun lock was added starting with the F2/G model to reduce with handling issues caused by the heavy weight of the long gun that overloaded the front road wheels' suspension system. It also helped preserve the optic/gun alignment when moving up to the front from the service areas. Being internal, versus the external clamp style systems found on many other tanks, it could be used much closer to the combat area before being disengaged and lowering the gun into service position. Once the enemy was in sight though it should never be shown in use...

But it would be nice if they included a command so you could tell the A.I. tanks in your platoon when to get ready for combat, and when to lock the gun. Same with the gun lock in the players tank, it would work much better if they separated the key-command for the gun lock from the key-command for nestle/take control of the gun IMO.
