This is the one that i would expect to cover this game's time frame.  Does anyone know if it's ever going to be released?

Good news....although it means I can't sell my Volume 1 at some ridiculous price any more!

Yes you will sallee... there are always collectors out there that want the 'originals'... :)

I have all three volumes and have been hanging on to them for years, even though I only have a passing interest in the Russian front.

If the two new volumes get published, I'll get them as well... people like to have 'the whole set' and will pay to get their hands on them when they go out of print again.

That's good news, I thought that Vol.4 had been abandoned for good years ago. Just started reading the series again not long ago.

I'd given up on volume 4 too.  Only have volume 3 myself (smelly binding, but a great book), so I'll certaintly be looking forward to picking up the others.  Maybe some air freshener too.

Is this series good, I've never heard of them before. Most of my books on aircraft are from Ian Allen publishing but I'd like to broaden my library with eastern front stuff.

You can have mine for £245...no, really! It's a bargain.

True enough. And it doesn't stink of fag smoke any more!

I think it's very good. Methodical and well-written.

I got the 3 volumes and from my point of view are the best books related with the air war on the eastern front

The author will be publishing a volume 4 within the next several months (2018) and if that is successful will publish updated volumes 1,2 and 3. The interest in these books is a niche group and as such he has to publish this on his own. He is looking for either pre-orders or help in crowd funding. He has also promised not to ask for any money until he has reached the required amount of 125 orders.

I think it would be well worth it to support him since if volume 4 is successful then he can print the updated versions of volumes 1- 3 which would be more affordable than the out of print originals if you can find them at all. These would also be very helpful in WITE 2.0 as the air war would probably have more interest than it does now.

As a disclaimer I have no financial interests at all in this, just helping him get the news out so hopefully he can get the books published. Here is the link to his site:

Fellow airwar enthusiasts,

most of you are aware of these coveted books which cover especially air war in the Eastern Front. Series is highly recommended by historians and also customers, who were lucky to get a copy. I myself have hunted these for a long time but they are sold at very high prize, even used ones. Well, it seems that the author is very close to publish Vol 4,"Stalingrad to Kuban", and that is a personal must-have for me while waiting BOK. He is also planning to re-publish updated versions of Vol 1-3.

Author is in need for a little help with his own publishing house to get this task done, so here is a link for everybody interested pre-ordering or crowdfunding: http://www.bergstrombooks.elknet.pl/bc-rs/

PS:

( I have no personal or financial connection with Mr. Bergström, just wanted to share this with people who might have missed this opportunity otherwise. MODS: I got OK from Jason to make topic in more popular section ).

I don't own any copies of this series but I've heard its good. How much information is in the previous titles? Worth the price?

My Vol 3 is still on it´s way from Amazon, so cannot say myself but just this one line from the reader reviews says a lot  " You get all the information from both sides of the conflict ". I haven´t read many VVS books so it will be interesting to know their story.

The author told me "Stalingrad to Kuban" to have very, very much detailed information about this hitherto almost completely unknown air battle (at least when it comes to details). I hope this answers your question!

If someone has some information about the number of contrinutor. It would be better if he used kickstarter.

I'm very interrest in vol 4 and the new version of vol 1/2/3, but managing a crowfunding by mail is not really friendly.

Why is it some threads get moved from General Discussions, while others like this don't? This has little more to do with BoX than the thread "Carrier Ablaze" did with the picture of the burning U.S.S. Franklin. That one got moved to the Free Subject forum.

Good news, I got the following email yesterday:

Hello dear supporter of Black Cross/Red Star, Volume 4,

Great news about Black Cross/Red Star, Volume 4!

I have now reached most of the promises for crowdfunding and pre-orders for Black Cross/Red Star, Volume 4 that I can assure you that if only all of you who have promised to support the book, pay what you promised, the book will be published within 12 months! I attach a sample from the raw manuscript (unedited).  See also the book's website: http://www.bergstrombooks.elknet.pl/bc-rs/

I would appreciate if you can spread the word about crowdfunding for $100 or pre-order for $60 even further. (In both cases, the supporter will receive a copy of Black Cross/Red Star, Volume 4.)

I gladly pay, let's hope the funding helps to develop a strong momentum for publishing vol. Four & Five AND the 2nd editions of volumes One to Three. We need your stuff, Chris! Asap, even sooner, now! :rtfm:   ;)

Picked up Volumes 1-3 earlier this year, so couldn't resist pre-ordering this one.  Seems like every time I read these forums it costs me money - BoS, BoM, collector planes, BoK, VR, PC upgrade, and now books - it never ends (I hope).

Yes, I have had all three volumes for some years, and a great source of information.

I'll certainly buy the 4th as well...

Good to know that the goal of the crowfunding is reach. I'll buy the book as soon as it's avaliable.

Is someone has some news of the 4th volume ?

Hi guys. I just started reading Black Cross Red Star Volume 3 which covers Stalingrad. I was thinking of picking up the other two volumes but they are pretty expensive. Does anyone have a good review of them or alternatives? I also just started reading "When Titans Clashed." That is not about the air war though.

Posted

I have original first editions of all three volumes and consider them some of the best books on the eastern front air war.  Of course they were a lot cheaper 18 years ago  I also helped the author with volume 4 by participating in his "crowdfunding" effort to finance the latest volume.  So, I consider them worth the cost if you want to really get to know the subject better without all the technical nuts and bolts stuff like Soviet Combat Aircraft of World War Two.

If you cannot find the originals, there is a series put out by the same author called "The Air Battle" that feature much of the same material (and new material in all of them). The ones in that series are Barbarossa, Stalingrad, Kursk, and Bagration to Berlin and are all quality works.

Okay interesting I might pick up the Barbarossa Air Battle book instead then. The only copy of vol. 1 Black Cross / Red Star I can find is on amazon for $140. After going through a few chapters in vol. 3 I’m realizing I’d like to read these chronologically.
