catchthefoxes Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Very strange question but what would've been the average cloud height in western Europe in the 40s? 1

That’s what I’m aiming for lol ? I always set it around 1,300 or 1,400m or at least that was a close cloud height average in Europe today from what I’ve learned.

Interesting. I think the setting is actually the cloud base / ceiling rather than the maximum height? Clouds vary from ground level fogs to 15,000-20,000 metre heights... so in many climates there will at least sometimes be clouds at a huge variety of altitudes... but what is most typical or average? Clouds are impacted a lot be local climate, so I wonder about the effects of the relatively wet high-latitude climate of Europe (plus climate change). There should be average cloud base or ceiling numbers out there somewhere. P.S. I remember an 18th century scientific journal with someone's letter with them attempting to establish if clouds have weight through using a barometre.

Makes sense.
