Newcomer to FC2, slow internet (for now) considerations?

Hello

I used to play ROF until a few years ago and had economic probs but I'm back and wanting to play WW1 sims, namely ROF until I discovered FC2

Recently bought an ASUS ROG Zephyrus g14, AMD Ryzen 9 5500, Geforce rtx3060, 16gb,1TB hd, 144hz sRGB 14" display with an eternal 27" 144hz, 1080p ASUS monitor with Gsync and all that. I'm pricing Peripherals. Looking at VR, medium priced HOTAS to play flight sims

I am doing my research, and I saw someone mention fast internet is required to play certain things, but there are packs available for d/l to play offline campaigns and campaign generators and such. Ok kool

I can get big d/l's by going to a friends house but how will FC2 play if I do not connect for a couple weeks until my hotspot renews? I get like 10gb highspeed max, then throttled down to painfully slow the rest of the month.

I wont be going through Steam but this is an example, when I have games that are updated for play, I disconnect internet, and can start in offline mode all month(s) long. I'm assuming something similar with FC2?

Currently I'm on my android hotspot, and dedicated high speed/unlimited internet not available until October or later.

I think it has a lot to do with your location. If you are in the same country of the server you play, low internet speeds might do it. But if you get limited and then you have to play across the globe, things get pretty bad.

What is your download and upload speed when you are not limited and then when you are limited? Where do you live? City if possible.

Then people can have some information to help you.

For example, I'm in Rio de Janeiro. When I played ROF in a server in Houston, NY area, 10mb download and 2mb upload was enough, but my cable is stable and I don't use wifi. Because what happen is, the 10mb was linking to my local server. If I did the same test linked to a server in NY for example, the speed would drop to 3/5mb dowload. It deteriorates with the distances, especially depending on how your country is connected to the world (optical fiber for example).

Nowadays I have good speeds and Brazil just inaugurated a new optical fiber cable to Spain, so I might see some gains, at least some stability, playing in European servers.

Perhaps someone else could chime in and give some feedback about server connections and internet band.

Sometimes latency is more critical than speed. That is, you may have fast speed ONCE the packets are sent, but they may take a few ms more to actually be sent, and that will cause lag. Thjs is not critical if you're watching a video - you could care less if it took an extra second to start - but it's a problem when you press the trigger, manoeuver  etc. and expect to be synchronized with the rest of the world...

With a stable connection of good quality you'll be fine even if fairly slow.

The worst thing, I believe,  is packet loss. Try not use WiFi, as cable is more stable.

I was able to fly RoF MP fine with 2mb/s up/down from my location in SE Asia with a 240ms ping.

Now I have 500mb/s connection,  but ping is still 235ms and the flying experience pretty much the same.

The Server will adjust things for your ping, but obviously if the ping is changing a lot then lag would result. Most servers will boot you if your ping goes too high,  so just jump on and try it out.
