In mission, my port track was damaged.  After action, I abandoned the tank since there was no way to repair the track.  Mission was a failure (after killing five tanks).  Is there a war to repair the track or are you supposed to sit there until the mission expires?  Thanks for any advice.

You have to turn off engine and open a hatch. Repairing starts automaticly.
Press "Enter" to see what is damaged and what is reparing right now.

Thank you Lofte, like Hening I too just ended the mission when my track broke and I had 6 kills.

Now I know what to do.

Cheers

You might want to also read up on RRR zones (repair, rearm, refuel) as another feature in the game. Not sure what missions you are doing, but if the mission map you are using includes RRR zones, you can use them to do much more extensive repairs including armor and view ports.

You can read about it here:

or watch a YouTube video of one being used here:

Thank you LachenKrieg, I am a complete newb to this. I am loving it and always happy to learn.

I hope this sim continues to grow, is it still being actively worked on?

Yes, they are constantly adding to the SIM. You can read about the SIM's progression by reading the Dev blog under the "NEWS" tab of IL2's main web page. Welcome to Tank Crew and enjoy.

Thanks very much.  I would have never thought of that.  I'm playing the scripted mission for the Tiger and enjoying it.  This was just a mystery.  In contrast, I've played one of the Flying Circus missions in the series, gotten killed in the cockpit and it ended in joy and glory.  This just seem crazy having a tread hit and failing.  I abandoned the tank, so now I know better.

I am not really a big fan of scripted game play, but I have played a few in Tank Crew and found them to be a lot of fun. Something else I can suggest in case you haven't already tried it yourself is the Quick Mission Builder. I have played around quite a bit with the QMB to generate some really interesting engagements by mixing and matching the type of tanks, their number, and the load out. You can have anything from a 1 vs 12 (3 platoons) to a 12 vs 12 with various load outs. So you can make the level of action and difficulty you want on the fly.

Glad to hear you are enjoying Tank Crew.
