TL;DR: I forgot to turn the G2 off while PC was off and it’s been powered for the last 3 days. How badly fvcked am I?

Well, the above says it all really. I’m livid with myself right now. Wednesday night I turned everything off (or so I thought) but the G2 was still powered on this morning when I started the computer. Now, it feels like I have a very slight blurriness at the far left, far right and towards the bottom of the display.

I can’t tell if it was always there or if I’m just imagining it just appeared because I’m worried.

Is there any way to check for screen burn in? If it’s burnt in, what other choice do I have other than a complete replacement?

Thanks

It's panic setting in, chances are it was there before and you never noticed.  It's like when your car's engine warning light comes on; all of a sudden you're feeling vibrations, and hearing sounds that weren't there before...  ?

I think that is exactly what it was. I’ve been flying in IL-2 for the past two hours and everything looks good.

I had come to edit the post to write “OK, I’ve been a chicken little and everything seems fine” LOL.
ive been trying so hard to find a way to get away from having to run SteamVR home every time I wanted to play, I must have forgotten to turn the G2 power off last Wednesday night.

I know the feeling well.  I had a similar experience with leaving my G2 hooked over the headrest of my vinyl chair; the heat built up so much that the paint on my prescription lens caps started to run and smeared itself over the lenses & seat, but I thought (wrongly) the vinyl of seat had melted also.  Turned out just the cheap paint on the caps from China ran onto the seat...

Curious about your thoughts on the heat buildup inside your G2, do you find them quite hot?  I'm still a little unsure if my set is running hotter then the norm or not.

Most of the time I’m comfortable with the heat buildup in the headset, but there are times that it gets really warm so that the foam is wet. This happens less with IL-2, but more frequently with my driving sims.

the headset itself is warm to the touch after use but never enough to make handling it uncomfortable.

I’ve never been thrilled that the G2 doesn’t have an off switch, so I gave mine one by plugging it in to this:

I’m using something similar too. I just forgot to flip it off :(

Yup, I kept forgetting, too, so I created a small sign for myself where I store the G2 ?

I unplug it everytime I'm done at night

HP even recommends it now.  I think it was causing cables to go bad.  I had an early one that needed cable and earphones replaced.  They sent a new headset.  New headset has chromatic aberration.  I may need to send this one back too. I worry about the cable going bad again so I unplug the small power adapter at the computer.  I never mess with the cable near the headset.

Well, I moved and finally got my G2 unpacked and sent it into HP's service department because of the heat it was generating.  They sent a complete replacement head unit, mask everything but the controllers and cables which were new anyways.  I feel zero heat coming off this new unit inside the mask area, the first one was radiating lots of heat, so if anyone is feeling any heat on your eyes at all, you should get it checked out, too...
