cardboard_killer Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 (edited) [80 years ago today] "• The Douglas XB-19 heavy bomber makes its maiden flight. Designed in response to a 1937 request from the USAAC, it is the largest American aircraft of the war [I don't think this is correct as the H-4 Hercules, aka the Spruce Goose, was larger]. It will not be selected for production as technology has advanced so the result of a 1939 specification will be developed, ultimately resulting in the B-29. - The XB-19 has a spacious flight deck and the flight engineer can access the engines during flight from inside the wings. The prototype will be used for testing and scrapped in 1949. XB-19 flight deck" Edited June 27, 2021 by cardboard_killer 2
