Why do I need 2 differen't key strokes to raise lower the Binoculars?

I am new to TC but not to IL2 in general and I always found the commands to be a bit odd but worth learning. I'm currently working on figuring out the basics and assigning keys that make sense to me. I have played several tank games from Steel Beasts through WT and all of the rest and I try to keep most commands similar so lessen my learning curves.

One question, why in the world would it be necessary to have 2 keys just to raise or lower the Binoculars? it seems one key to toggle them is standard and makes logical sense. Right now I have bound the B key to raise and one of my secondary mouse buttons to lower them by returning to whatever view they call it. It just seems akward.

I am also having to struggle with figuring out if the views are correct, for example in the shermans Commander posittion pressing shift-V doesn't take me to a perisocope view but sends me looking at the turret floor instead. So I am left ot question if it's a bug or if I'm just lost to the view system, without a tutorial it's a bit frustrating and I consider myself a bit more of a veteran with this type of sim than some newer folks who might be totally turned off which isn't good.

because they are a little bit heavy.

Figures, I can see it takes my commander about 5 seconds to muscle them into position.

I am slowly starting to piece together the commands but there are so many that seem to conflict with others. I don't have my TrackIR with me right now so I suppose some of the views would make more sense with that operating.

I'm trying to wrestle with the concept that the commander once unbuttoned seems to be controlling the machine gun but then needs to use a command to stop using it however while he is using it the Binoculars are just too hard for him to raise to his face. So in order to look through the binocs I have to press a key to let go of the machine gun first then the binocs. Sooner or later this will all fall into place I suppose.

The controls could be more fluid (and commands to crew too). The Sherman 50cal is very disturbing. In MP I usually set the gunners view to sights. But this results in commander looking trough the 50cals iron sights when switching to his position. Very annoying.

It's a running joke in our group of friends that GUIs and key assignments in the IL2 series, and we mean every game since the original, are overly complex.  It's been this way for over 20 years now, I don't expect it to ever change.

Keybinding is the extra puzzle game you get for free with IL2 ;)

TMWH w/TARGET running you can program the button to put the glasses up to your face while you hold the button and when you release it the Glasses will go away. I do it with the game map, hold down the key and I see the map, let go of the key and I'm back in cockpit.  Easy peasy...................................

S! All, quick question about the Sherman binocular controls... If I decide to nestle my gunsight... and I want to jump in my commander position, I need to take the gun and nestle my gunsight (of the machine gun), if I want to use my binocular?!! But after this, if I remove my binocular and get in my gunner position, I'm back to do nestle gunsight and then take the gun to get my sight on the bandit... by that time, you know what happens?!! ;(

If any of you got a way not having the mg up when choosing the commander position, that would help after when I go back in the gunner position.

Tanks & Cheers,

I think, it's the only tank in TC that have this problem...
