Mungee Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I realise that the the subject of 'swastikas' is VERBOTEN on this forum, but I'm keen to have my little say on this and, importantly, what I think skinners should do re German aircraft skins. I'm one of those people that don't find anything objectionable about the swastika when it appears in a photograph/on a model aircraft/on an aircraft represented in a flight simulator - my views is certainly not an endorsement of Nazism - it's historic accuracy, plain and simple. Waving Nazi flags in the street/at gatherings etc is a totally different matter - anyway, what I feel has no effect on the blanket ban placed on the display of the swastika by many countries. This leads me on to the real purpose of my post: given the laws that prohibit the display of the swastika, I prefer nothing appearing on the tails of German aircraft - I find that the half-baked/semi-disguised version of the swastika both jarring and irritating. Just my "two pennies'" worth!! I'm not sure how one does a poll on this - if I knew how to do it, I would conduct a poll to see whether my views are in the minority/majority. 7

It is a matter of law in several countries. 1
Remontti Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I would also prefer a tail without any markings as a default skin. But it is just minor detail and doesn't bother me much.
Missionbug Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Many of us have mentioned it would be preferable to remove the marking completely rather than have the marking as it is now, however, 1C/777 prefer this odd looking marking that has no resemblance to anything really to having nothing at all there, strange but true, it is as if they want to censor but not completely. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. 1
Chief_Mouser Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Would also prefer nothing on the tail but it's not going to get changed now - eight and a half years of Il-2 GB is probably too far down the line.
Na-zdorovie Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) i suppose if i had a choice then yea plain over the weird cube, but its so easy to download your own i just use them haha didnt realise you had the bell Cat, was there a while ago ? Edited June 14, 2021 by Na-zdorovie
40plus Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I guess I'm in the minority who prefer the altered swastika over nothing at all. Blank tail just wouldn't look right to me. 2

Eisenfaustus Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I prefer the current setup - doesn’t look weirdly empty, doesn’t promote a symbol of hatred - a good compromise! 2
zan64 Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 agree, when i first saw BOS's version of the explicitive i thought it was jarring and just brings attention to the fact of the explicitive so you are looking at the explicitive and not at the pretty plane, i'd rather it be blank as well

Soilworker Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 In beginning it bugged me but now I'm fine with it, I think it's a good compromise. Maybe I've lived in Germany too long but I actually don't really like seeing Hakenkreuze, it makes me think of the messed up ideology of the Nationalist Socialist regime and the gits that propagated it. Also blank tails would look wierd to me.
Denum Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 I fly in cockpit view most often, so it's of little concern. I'd say almost none.

I fully realise that - I stated this fact in my initial comments (above) - my issue was what to substitute for the swastika - a half-baked/semi-disguised version of the swastika OR nothing at all - my preference was to show nothing at all - however, it appears that I was outvoted on this in an earlier poll!!
No_Face Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Ideally, there should be a "censorship" option activated by default that does not display this cross (or not totally). That way, everyone is free to deactivate this censorship and to take the responsibility in case of problem. In my country, there is "no problem" (we understand each other) with this symbol so I find it a shame to have a watered down version in a historical game. On the other hand, if I have to choose, I still prefer an unfinished cross (as it is now) than no cross at all on the tail of our planes. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) 1

I find the "half-baked" - as you call them - version of the swastika the perfect intermediate solution, so i am using it on the scale models i build. In many german forums, even in scale modelling forums, its not wished to show the original ones. So its somehow there, but its not the forbidden symbol. Perfect solution in my opinion.
