Things about TAW (Tactical Air War)

Hello.
Like other users of the Tactical Air War server I miss a forum where we can comment on things related to the TAW.

While all the "official" channels are closed I suppose we can do it here, obviously respecting the general rules of this forum (please don't be 1d1ots). I guess one of the best Great Battles servers must have somewhere the pilots can comment on battles and technical problems.

First of all congratulations to brave red pilots who, with the penultimate map of Kuban almost lost, continue fighting until the end. And to the blue pilots who have made it possible: the first map of this TAW won (I hope) by the blue side. This edition has been completely won by the red side.

I hope that the last map we ALL continue fighting to try to win and enjoy this Server.

See you in the air!

How has the attendance on the server been during the second half of the campaign during European Prime Time? Occasionally observing from a distance it looks half-full at best, but maybe I'm not checking at the right times.

Attendance during North American west coast times has been pretty abysmal, often low single digits per side. That's not that unusual especially during the summer when there is more to do outside in the evenings, but I wonder how much the changes to this campaign have affected attendance (I suspect significantly on the blue side) and whether the closing of the official forum thread affected attendance too (it couldn't have helped).

Whenever I've been flying and looked, its been pretty low. Seems like FVP is more than half full NA evenings, Combat Box has 15-30 people depending on night and time. I think numbers overall are lower as things open up and with nice weather, and that means that people congeal onto whatever server has the most players in a feedback loop, drying up the other servers.

Connection issues did me in for this campaign. I've always had some trouble with disconnects but this time was unable to do anything more than spawn for five seconds. Even after following advice from a few people and changing settings etc. I would just get kicked all the time for having lost connection, so I have bowed out. Of course, that was before all the official stuff closed down.

Maybe they got sick of dealing with all the fighting etc. but without anywhere official to announce/discuss things I have no idea how anything can go forward from here?

If that's true, that's weak. I don't participate in threads for any other server or even any other game I play but TAW is an exception because of its complexity; there's always questions to ask and answer, ideas to read, feedback to give. If they can't handle their users' no-mercy feedback then they could ignore it but still leave the thread open for others to use.

I can only partialy answer that as I've been on a trip for the last few weeks, so missed the last few maps.

Things have opened up around here (Paris) as bars and restaurants have reopened and the summer is on again. They also relaxed the crazy curfew they have had in place for months that meant you had to be home for 6pm, like a bug can tell the time ?

This kind of thing may be a contributing factor, but I also reckon that the way the score was heading impinged somewhat on a few peoples incentive.

I doubt that it had anything to do with the current rule set, or that would have been apparent from the get go and we know that there were consistently times when you couldn't get on the server.

The truth is that this TAW, except for the first week, has never been at full server. A shame.

The balance has been very unbalanced in favor of the reds in the first half of the TAW. Blues have awakened towards the second half (or rather the last third) with some moments of overbalance in favor of the Blues in some hours, although we have not been able to win more than one map. Reds have fought VERY WELL.

I guess some of the major changes in this edition made some pilots lost interest (not only blues, even red pilots).
In my opinion:
- the lack of a basic line of bombers (although the weather makes it difficult for bombers to fly in many missions).
- The losses of some advanced aircraft when changing maps due to different "versions" of planes.
- How difficult it is to get the necessary CPs.
- Loss of ALL planes and 800 points for each death.

Besides some other things more related to "human resources management"....

But ... this is just a personal opinion

That may be the truth™ according to you, but that's just it...according to you.

This time, it was very difficult to gather the blue players to complete the combat missions. Within the blue Russian-speaking collective, there was too much disagreement over the new balance of the blue planes.

for me, this war was the most difficult

That's exactly what I said. Just my personal opinion.

But there's something out of discussion: low numbers of pilots all along this TAW (except first week).

You can repeat this as often as you like, (as I'm sure you will) but I still didn't see that from my point of view.

I flew fairly regularly up until the last 3 maps and at peak times the server was as busy as I've ever seen it in the past. This happened all through the campaign.

==================

That said it changes very little, as it's ultimately up to the TAW admin which way they go with things and they have all the relevant stats to help them make that decision.

Man. That is not an opinion, it is a fact. Check the data of the missions.

But it doesn't matter at all. Do you think otherwise? Cool. There is no problem at all. There´s no need to argue.
What happens at TAW, does it make people want to argue about anything?
