Hi!

I have trouble when flying il2 in VR with flickering edges. It is very notable in the hangar (at the main menu). The drain grid on the floor in the hangar is a good example. Its edges flickers immensly, and it is very evident ingame to. Is it possible to get rid of this somehow?

It's called "aliasing" and has been increased since switching to deferred rendering in IL-2. It's a feature specific to IL-2, DCS suffers from it as well. It's especially visible when using "sharpen" by in-game settings.

Some headsets increase the sensation (G2, 8KX, 5K+, VP1, Odyssey OG) while others soften it (VP2, Odyssey+, Index).

You can set landscape filter to blurry and it'll be less pronounced once you fly higher.

Thankyou for your answer.

I have experimented with Sharpen and landscape filter, but Id say it´s still quite pronounced. I´ve been using VP1 and from today, VP2.

What do you mean, artifacts due to motion compensation or aliasing?

If it's aliasing and you got the VP2 - then your settings are false. Either in the Vive Console or in SteamVR.

Actually that's an extreme example since the specific one is a low resolution transparent texture and it can get pretty nasty. Same applies to foliage up close. The only thing short of full screen anti-aliasing (which will cost performance considerably) that helps at least reduce the shimmering of some such textures is setting the negative LOD bias to clamped in the nvidia control panel, max anisotropic filtering would help too in conjunction with the previous but that's just overkill for a handfull of textures you do not notice when in the air. I'd say if the aliasing in the cockpit while you are up in the air doesn't bother you, ignore the rest.

Im not really sure. For example, flying over the Kuban map at dusk, the beaches are like flickering, or shimmering. No problem with the cockpit or my plane though.

Regarding Vive 2 settings, Im running at High in the Vive Console and 140% resolution in the SteamVR. Supersample is on in SteamVR.

Yeah I think 3080 is the minimum for the Pro2 now, due to the incredibly high fillrates required.

I just switched my gtx1080 to a rtx 3080ti and pushed up the graphics settings. Wonders of wonders, the flickering is gone. :)
