Howdy. I’ve been flying in IL2 I single player for a few months now and I use VoiceAttack software to operate a lot of in-game functions such as show map, gear up/down, start engine, etc. because I have a limited number of buttons on my joystick base. (Planning to get a VKB throttle whenever that comes out.) I’m very clumsy trying to memorize and use the keyboard at the same time so VA is very useful. However when I recently tried to make the leap into multiplayer the VA software wouldn’t work. Does anyone know if that’s the case with all servers? I’ve tried 3 so far. THANKS in advance.

I don't play a lot of multiplayer, but the one server where I do go has no problems with VA (was there last night with no issues).  Which servers have you tried - I will try to give it a test run on those this evening to see if it is server specific setting?

I can't imagine why MP would affect VA.  VA is a locally running app that transmits commands to your IL2 game, also running locally.  What happens after that should not matter - i.e. the fact that IL2 is connected to a server should be of no consequence.

What servers specifically were you flying on? Was VA simply not working at all or not working properly? In some cases depending on your difficulty settings, some actions you can do in SP might be limited in MP, like external views or having the minimap open rather than the fullscreen one. But if VA is tied to a keybinding it should work the same in MP as in SP.

I know that CombatBox has more than a few players in VR and a few of them I'm pretty sure use VA with no issues.

I tried Finnish Virtual Pilot, No.41 Squadron and IL2 Great Battles. The VA was not working at all. I spawned at an airfield and the buttons on my stick worked but not voice directives. I may be so new at this that I might not have some box checked or something. I’ll keep trying. Somebody mentioned that VA might be a “mod” that’s not accepted on some servers, but I honestly don’t know what that means. I shoulda taken computer courses ?

Try the Combat Box server. I'm almost certain at least a few pilots, maybe even the admins, fly in VR and use voice attack.

If Voice Attack was a 'mod' to the game, you would have to have the game in 'mods on mode' and you wouldn't be able to see the server in the available servers list. There are third party software called 'injectors' like ReShade that alter the graphics of the game a bit that are also banned on a lot of servers, but if you have one of those active, the server just rejects your connection. So something else is going on there.

Those points are helpful. I’ll check the VA site for more info. I foresee more trial &error in my future. Much obliged.

Hi Jammer - I just checked Finnish (it didn't look like the other 2 were online, at least I couldn't find them), and VA worked fine for me there.  So, as noted by Pat & Gambit it must be something other than the servers themselves.  I don't use comms online, so maybe yours is related to that and the microphone, be sure that your VA is "listening" and you don't have to use a hot key to trigger it.  Good luck!

Thanks very much for checking that out, I’ll give it a go. After further review, because I’m not yet familiar with all the terminology, I think what I listed are Discord groups/channels, not servers. But I might be wrong about that, too. ? Nevertheless, I shall persevere!!

I have used VA for many years and frequently use alla servers You have mentioned.

No problems with VA at all. This will perhaps not help immediately but can perhaps narrow the search for a reason.

Since I use Discord and Teamspeak as well as Simple Radio I have set a PTT button in VA to stop listening when I transmit on the "radios" to avoid accidental activation of commands.

The evidence seems to be that I’m doing something wrong, so it’s good to hear from people who are using VA successfully in multiplayer. I use a PTT for VA in single player. When I set up Discord and SRS this week I used separate PTTs, one for each channel, but I haven’t used those yet because I literally haven’t gotten off the ground - I’ve been trying to get VA working first. Thanks very much for your help.

Well after ticking and switching a bunch of stuff based on your tips I managed to activate VA on IL2 MP. ? I didn’t use a precise scientific method so I have no idea which tick or switch worked, but I’m just happy to make progress.

 

But once I started to take off in Combat Box I discovered that all those wonderful single player engine cheats I was using are kaput so I now have to put on my big pilot pants.

 

First step, I’m now delving into separate controls for throttle and prop pitch. Next I suppose I’ll have to look at boost, manifold, fuel mixture, radiators, etc. I have no idea what those things mean yet, I just read them online. 

This has now become a full time job so I’ll look forward to flying with you in seven or eight months. ?
