BigPickle Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Vickers Wellington. Arguably the most forgotten bomber of WW2, more produced and flown from beginning to end of WW2 and after into the 1950's than any other type used by the RAF. I had such high hopes for a flyable Whimpy in Clod, but alas left dissapointed. Not sure if Wellingtons were on the lend lease program but it seems logical that they were even if only in small numbers.
II./JG53Lutzow_z06z33 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Ju-52 as they are pretty awesome as a Russian counter part they could make the LI-2, I'm thinking Para drop missions and resupply which was a major thing during the battle of Stalingrad.

Your above remarks highlight your immaturity !

That would be epic - Para-drop missions. Hadn't even though of that one myself. 1

Matt Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 That would be epic - Para-drop missions. Hadn't even though of that one myself. I think the current bail out animations, the chute and everything look just great, so i would imagine a massive para drop to be pretty epic.

I spent many an evening hugging the treetops in a Ju-52 before climbing to drop paratroopers over an airfield to capture it in Warbirds and then later a C-47 in Aces High 1

Manning an AA gun is possible with this game engine. Can you imagine sitting on the airfield and seeing a massive paratrooper drop?
Mirtma Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Would love to fly a P-39 again too! Oh, yes. P-39 was my favourite in original IL2
IVJG4-Knight Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 P-39 yak-9t I'd like to fly them because of the 37 mm cannon. La 7, la 5 fn , spitfire 9 ,yak 3 because i'd like to shoot them down. Bf 109 g 14 with mk 108 Bf 109 g6 mk 108 as cannon and erla canopy.
Pharoah Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Dream a/c? 1. Hawker Tempest (2 x 1000lb, 4 x 20mm Hispano cannon) or Hawker Typhoon 2. Beaufighter 3. B25 I like to blow stuff up
Duckman Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 In the east I'd love to see my old Il2 favourites La-5 (yes it's a bit boring because it's so good, but still a crowd-pleaser), Brewster Buffalo (I love it's chubby, pugilistic look), and the I-16. Outside of the immediate area I dream about nightfighters. It's never been done in a sim and would offer something really interesting and different. Night combat wasn't a big thing in the east so I'd prefer a Me 110 and Lancaster pair, to begin with. After that let's have a Mosquito night intruder and, in turn, a Me 262 Wilde Sau to counter it. Night combat would finally introduce WWII simmers to the fun world of radar intercepts and countermeasures!

It would have been great fun.
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Vickers Wellington. Arguably the most forgotten bomber of WW2, Well I'd say the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura is far less known than the Wellington. The forgotten workhorse of the Pacific. Fast too... But we will never see anything that has to do with the Pacific in any sim that comes under the 1C corporate umbrella ever again. So sad.
Feathered_IV Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I'm rather fond of the Ventura. It's sort of a Hudson with a nose job and new pair of boobs.
0ddball Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 How's this for a forgotten bomber? He-177 Greif - It was actually at Stalingrad - its payload was comparable to US and British heavy bombers, but it was faster - It was a heavy bomber designed to have dive-bombing capability - it had interesting engines - it had very interesting armaments - it was not very reliable - Allied test pilots found flying captured examples scary - It could make for some interesting missions - Given its reliability issues at the time of the Battle of Stalingrad, shooing it down by simply leaving it alone and waiting until it caught itself on fire could very well prove a valid tactic for Russian pilots

It would propably be the Gotha of BoS: More dangerous to its crew than to the enemy.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) Don't see any use of heavy bombers in BoS to be honest and the current airfields would be more than pathetic to take off from. The He 111 was way more heavily utilized thx to it's good short take off capabilities and versatility. Maybe - in another sim - the He 177 might have a proper appearance. Could be interestign, though wihtout any strategic bomber targets/missions it would turn into either useless prey or gunship to hunt fighters in current MP. Edited August 11, 2014 by [Jg26]5tuka 1
Feathered_IV Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If we're talking forgotten aircraft appropriate to Stalingrad, it all comes back to the Ju-52 again.... 1
Pharoah Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If we're talking forgotten aircraft appropriate to Stalingrad, it all comes back to the Ju-52 again.... lol do you really want to fly a JU-52? you'd be every fighter jock's dream!! (esp if you flew it online!). Trust me, I usually only fly bombers online and even with defensive fire, you're still a target for every enemy fighter chasing easy kills.
Feathered_IV Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Depends if you go trucking on in using a suicidal heading that leaves you wide open to interception. I rarely get caught by fighters online.

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If we're talking forgotten aircraft appropriate to Stalingrad, it all comes back to the Ju-52 again.... +1 milion Ju 52 would be awesome, even if I'd likely spend half the time flying it in QM freeflights rather than egttign slaughtered on Lapino. This bird is so much awesome and offers many possebilities for gameplay extensions turning MP more strategic and interesting (caturing airfields on Stalingrad with paratroopers would only be one feauture of it). Prepare yourself for "Ju 52 can outturn my Yak!" and "Ju52 overpowered?" threads coming along with it

On a server with a proper 'supply the Stalingrad Pocket' mission, where the German team scores solely based on how many Ju 52s they can sneak past the VVS defenses? You bet I'd fly the Ju 52 in MP! VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch. Need a good recon plane. Since the Germans gave Russia several between 1939 to 1941 and they copied them, it could serve both sides. Ski option available. 6./ZG26_5tuka Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Yea Storch would be a nice spotter. Nice looking but terribly slow and large plane compared to usual aircraft, still loving it! Another one I'm very much looking forward to (also because it isn't being very popular among other flight sims) is the Hs 123. Served threwout the war from Spain to Eastern front and still showed good succes as a ground attack aircraft. Infact it's age was it's most vital enemy on the battlefield. Still I'd rly love to see biplanes flying over Stalingrad, especially in leightweight fighter / ground attack roles. Russian euivalent could be Po-2 or Chaika with rockets. Edit: Also interesting as a feauture: It became the first german terror weapon due to it's engine generating a terrible noise at certain RPM settings similar to machine gun fire, which was sucesfully used to terrify ground troops in attack runs. Imagine this being simulated in BoS.... Edited August 13, 2014 by [Jg26]5tuka

Pacific theatre never to be done again?? Also B25's and Hawker Hurricanes for the win!
RDW Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Storch, Mig-1/3, Hienkel 123, i-15, i-16, Ju-87 early, sukhoi su3, ju88, fw 200.
Wind Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 whhaa ?? what did i miss? Pacific theatre never to be done again?? Wasnt this because Grumman/Boeing/McDonnelDouglas or whomever are owning the rights to the planes and they cant be incorporated into a game without paying crapload of royalties?
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 More recently, Electronic Arts vs Textron. Nothing definitive, reached an out of court settlement. http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/16/ea-settles-battlefield-3-and-textron-helicopter-lawsuit/ The planes are over 70 years old, you'd think they would give it a break and be happy people are remembering their old products.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) unfortunately California lawyers look for any high paying law suite, they can get their hands on to for a settlement. Matter of fact you think they go after artist for their depiction of their model in a art representation, or art studio? Edited August 13, 2014 by 71st_Mastiff
