BladeMeister Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) A day to remember and give thanks for all of the preparation, the comradery, the courage and the Sacrifice made by the Allied Nations to gain a small foothold on the continent and begin a Brave new offensive to iniate the end of Germany's dominance in Europe. A day to celebrate the long called for second front to divide Germany's militaristic ambitions and resources so as to begin to assist Russia with the defeat of Germany's military and restore a sense of Peace to the world. There can be no end without a beginning. NEVER FORGET! Cheers! S!Blade<>< Edited June 6, 2021 by BladeMeister spelling 4 5
Eisenfaustus Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 One could argue that the Heer‘s spine had already been broken a year earlier on the eastern front the fighting in the West did little to actually help the red army in it‘s advance. However as a German I‘m really thankful for the political decision of the western allies to invade and thus save two thirds of Germany from soviet revenge and allow these two thirds to flourish in the light of democracy. 1

DBFlyguy Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 If your on FB, definitely check out the colorized images on "Colorized Memories of Bombers, Fighters and the men & women who flew them" She has been posting images from the event focusing on the aviation aspects of the operation and "WW2 Colourised Photos" who is covering the whole operation, the below photos are from there pages: 4th Fighter Group P-51s that took part, you'll notice there is actually a P-51D in the mix near the front of the formation. The 4th FG took heavy losses (10 aircraft) on the 6th to both AAA and Fighters including losing ace Captain Bernard Louis McGrattan (KIA) who was jumped by FW190s on 6th. He had actually volunteered to fly the operation even though his tour was over and he had orders home. 4th ID in Baudienville 506th PIR (Band of Brothers), 101st AB Division Royal Marines at Sword Beach 1 3
