Lusekofte Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 They get to be family. The sorrow is real as a family member die. Went through it when a child with dogs. What I did not expect it is the same thing with cats. I never been a cat person until I became one. We took in a shelter cat. Mean as f*** I literally had to fight in order to sit in my chair every day for sixteen years. He fought like a man and died as one. Fighting. we have since taken in shelter cats now two brothers. 2 2

It just isn’t the same anymore. Perhaps in time this may change but for now I don’t see it. Firstly, very sorry for your losses, and I completely understand how you must be feeling. The thing with pets is, that we're almost certain to have to deal with their passing at some stage. Heidi and Remy seem to have lived a good life to a good age, and clearly you've had a big hand in making that possible for them. And they'll have re-paid you with the love they returned and all the fond memories they'll have left you with. So with death ultimately being inevitable, and the good life they've had - you must celebrate their lives along with the sadness of loss. It's what we do when we lose a cat to 'old age'. It's time had come and we're grateful that it was nature that intervened, rather than the bloody road outside. If we're getting another cat we usually wait a month or two out of respect, but life goes on. Those pooches will be a part of you forever now, but if you were to get another dog / dogs in a few weeks, don't think of them as 'replacements'. And it would be no disrespect to Heidi and Remy either. Cats and dogs are as unique as we are, there's plenty out there waiting to be rescued, and you sound like you'd be a great home for many of them. You probably have already.. but make sure you've got nice pics of them at your modelling station so you can enjoy the happy memories. You're obviously still a bit raw which is to be expected, but in time you'll be more philosophical about things. The sooner you can get back to the modelling the better it'll be for you ! Take it easy, S! ZF. 2 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) S! Sorry for your loss BornToBattle, it really stings losing a loved pet. They are like family members and part of everyday life. I have five cats and it will be crushing to lose them one day. But until then giving them The best Life I can and enjoy every moment. Below Savu and Luna having a cuddly sleep on the couch. I seem to have a four year interval before I give in and accept a new pet into my heart and life (I've said "never again" twice now). I try to remember that their well being and happiness today, is what will ease my pain when they are gone. When my current cat wants my time, I give it to him, everything else goes on hold. I don't want any regrets when he's gone. I still dream about my first cat, usually happy dreams re-living the nights we chased each other around the neighborhood when I was a young adult and struggling with things. Thanks CK for that. You’re spot on. I’ve learned at times to hate that word - “time”. It feels so fleeting during the good times but ends up dragging on forever during the tough times. Guess that life though, huh? Also thanks to those leaving their expressions as well. I figured this was a place we could all relate. We had a saying at the airport, “Time heals all engines”. I suppose that means our hearts as well as those associated with an A&P mechanic! When our Theodore (he was a Great Pyrenees) past away it took me 7 years until I brought home our little (at the time lol) Heidi. Yes, totally agree - right now I’m at the point where if don’t say hello to a new furry friend, I’ll never have to say goodbye. I think it’s more or less a natural reaction. Like you, that’s what we both said after loosing Theodore and well, we opened our hearts and home to our Miss Heidi eventually. In my faith, I guess in the long run I’m just giving that part of it over to Him. If it’s meant to be someday I suppose it was just meant to happen, but right now I just ‘can’t see the forest because too many trees are in the way’. Have a great day good people and thanks again. 2

Take it easy, S! ZF. So true. My wife just said after reading all the replies on here to her she could see herself opening her heart and home to another. Me…not even on my radar - even out to maximum range. Today I went on IL2 some and just flew around solo at sunset in an ME109. Then I decided to go on MSFS and started jumping through the hoops on the training sessions. My goal is to reach the ATP level so I guess I’m healing mentally each day at a time. Thanks for the kind words. And that’s for everyone too. But yes…it kills me to know how many creatures out there are already in need of a deserving home. One lady where my wife works only adopts the elder dogs knowing their years are numbered and the least wanted of the age groups. She doesn’t have much money and does what she can to give them the last years the best life possible. I don’t know how she does it mentally (knowing that their time is going to be relatively short). To me, that’s a gift. It’s nothing you can teach. Take care ZF…and thanks again 1 1
